At present, to fly nonstop between Seattle (SEA) and Washington DC’s Reagan National Airport (DCA), the average consumer pays amongst the highest ticket prices in the entire United States. This is due to Alaska Airlines presently having a monopoly on the route, and thus practically full say on pricing. Therefore, any new entrant to the market would significantly lower prices by increasing competition, making tickets more accessible for all. https://lnkd.in/g5UkxhNF https://lnkd.in/g7hgAxaJ

In both #private_aviation and texas holdem #poker, understanding and controlling your position can make all the difference. Whether it's positioning in the airspace, securing airport slots, or navigating regulations, good positioning is key to getting the best price and a sure path to winning the trip.

Few could argue that 1970's start-up Air Florida had not "evolved" a fairly attractive paint scheme, one that certainly suited the company's name and Miami headquarters. The blue, green, and white ensemble looked particularly good when clean and captured in good sunlight, as was the case with this ex-United Boeing 737-222 "N62AF" photographed one day late in 1980 about to return to earth at MIA. This livery made it onto the company's 727-200, 737-200, DC-9-15, and DC-10-30 aircraft but was most common on the airline's large fleet of Boeing twinjets. After beginning service with a single ex-Pan am 707-321 in 1972, Air Florida ultimately grew to fly nearly 60 aircraft. Unfortunately an at-fault fatal 1982 crash involving the subject aircraft of this photo-post in the Potomac River (immediately after departure from Washington-National), along with overexpansion, led to its demise in 1984. Notice the McDonnell Douglas Delta DC-8-61 on her gate in the lower left corner of this image. Interested in legendary Pan Am? Is it time for a global revival of commercial airships? The Hindenburg airship disaster of 1937 was a tragic and highly publicized event that cast a long shadow over the potential of airships. Fast forward to 2024, we've witnessed a well-documented airplane incident in Japan that, despite its tragedy, hasn't led to the abandonment of airplanes due to their safety record. Considering that we continue to use airplanes despite accidents and disasters in aviation, it may be time to reconsider the use of airships as a sustainable solution to achieve our environmental goals. Airships have the potential in some cases to replace trucking, rail cars, ocean liners and play a vital role in our pursuit of greener transportation alternatives. #airships #transportation #freight #cargoshipping

Good reporting on a technical matter.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, NTSB Chairman, 2017-2021, CBS News Transportation Safety Analyst
Watch to the end. CBS News' Kris Van Cleave does a nice job explaining that greater attention to these events is contributing to fears about flying. On Wednesday I did a brief hit on CBS streaming and that anchor, like with Gayle King today, mentioned that she was apprehensive about flying. Anytime I have the opportunity to comment to media about aviation events, I try to make the point that our commercial aviation system in the US is quite safe, despite some hiccups. Don't get me wrong - the hiccups that we've seen lately are not acceptable, but I think it's worthwhile to keep things in perspective. I read a statistic that someone would have to board a flight at random for something like 100,000 years before they would, statistically speaking, be killed on a US scheduled airline. I say these things with the caveat that a lack of accidents isn't necessarily an indication of a safe system, but I believe the recent added fears of flying is unfounded. https://lnkd.in/eBdPg8V7
