A friend of mine shared this video with me last week and I'm sure you'll agree that it's definitely attention grabbing! It got me thinking, what can you do to stand out in a crowd of applicants? Optimise your CV to the role your applying for - research the company offering and job description, ensuring any relevant experience is flagged on your application so the hiring manager can see your suitability at a first glance. Add a personal touch - a line or two at the top of your CV about your soft skills, strengths and preferences gives hiring managers some insight into how you work and which environments you thrive in. This may not help you secure every role, but it should help to secure the right one! Work with a recruitment consultant - Jackson Hogg's consultants work closely with hiring managers and talk to people in your market everyday, we can offer a lot of additional information on job roles, process timelines, hiring manager's non-negotiables and changes in the market. (Macarthy, 2013) I have spent some time wading through my 500+ connections, adding endorsements to skills for people with whom I have worked. The process is not as quick and easy as one might think, as the list of connections goes back to the start every time you finish input to a connection's profile so involves a lot of scrolling, but I figure if they have earned it then it should be recognised and my effort is justified. Can you believe January is behind us already? In some ways, it felt like a marathon – 89 days long, with 23 of them without sunshine here in the Hoosier state. Yet, in other ways, it went by in a blur! How’s Q1 treating you so far? As we navigate through this quarter, let's take a moment to pause and reflect on the journey. What progress have you made, and what goals have you conquered? ➡️ Regular reassessment and recalibration are essential components to gain clarity and refine the path forward. Without it, we continue to add more to our to-do lists without making meaningful progress. On a personal note, one of my wins in January was earning certification as a Certified Resume Specialist in Hospitality and Tourism, adding to my writing toolbox to assist job seekers within the industry to level up their roles.
