🔗 The best way to use First Party Data highly depends on the context and the objective of the individual campaign and combining it with other mechanics is key. 📏 Similar to stitching consumer data in CDPs, we need to figure out ways to connect the individual measurements from the ad platforms to create a holistic picture regarding reach and frequency in our campaigns. 😴 Sometimes it is better not to wake up “sleeping dogs” in our databases. These were some of my takeaways from the panel talk on First Party Data, I had the pleasure to participate in at the Programmatic Pioneers Summit together with Mikael Lenneryd, Apoteket AB and Alex Davies, Simply Business. As Nielsen prepares to shift to Panel + Big Data audience measurement, a burning question leading into this upfront is whether anything changes with the Average Commercial Minute (i.e. C3/C7) ratings that have served as TV currency for many deals over the last 16 years or so. While ACM ratings will continue to be available, now that Nielsen will be measuring ad viewing at the subminute level, the calculation will be a bit different than before. Within the Panel-Only data there is some rounding involved (“win-the-minute”) as the minute is the most granular unit of measure. With Individual Commercial Metric (ICM) data, crediting goes to the exact seconds viewed for a given ad, so it is a more precise calculation that may produce slightly different results than the rounded approach. In aggregate, there won’t likely be a noticeable impact beyond the general increase in available impressions discussed previously, but there could be some slight differences when making more granular comparisons between the two methodologies (network/program/telecast).
