Mentorship is critical to career success, and the WiCyS Mentorship program was developed to upskill and uplevel all aspiring and existing cybersecurity professionals as they prepare for advancement at all levels of their career. Research shows that mentees are promoted five times more often than those without mentors, and mentors are six times more likely to be promoted. Don’t miss this chance to inspire or be inspired through being a mentor or mentee (or both)! The 9-month mentorship program, available to WiCyS members, includes a platform provided by Google and Workday that facilitates a more streamlined and engaging mentor/mentee experience through effective matching. WiCyS Mentors facilitate career advancement conversations, keep mentees focused on intentional career outcomes, and help them open their minds to new ideas as they navigate their career journey. There are numerous benefits for both mentors and mentees! Mentors can connect with peers through a private special interest group, take the N2K Cyber Talent assessment, earn continuing professional education (CPE) credits (ISC2 and GIAC), grow their leadership skills, and receive development support. **Celebrating a 100-Day Streak on TryHackMe: A Journey of Hard Work, Challenges, and Growth** Today, I am thrilled to share that I’ve reached a significant milestone: a 100-day streak on TryHackMe! 🎉 Over the past 100 days, I’ve completed 83 rooms and climbed to the top 5% of the TryHackMe community. This journey has been nothing short of transformative, filled with hard work, persistence, and invaluable learning experiences. Finding the time and energy to commit to this streak was not easy. Balancing daily responsibilities with the intense focus required for each room tested my dedication and time-management skills. Yet, the sense of accomplishment and the wealth of knowledge gained made every moment worthwhile. One of the biggest challenges I faced was navigating the PEN testing rooms with learning a lot of new tools in Kali. These rooms demanded a deep understanding of various penetration testing techniques and the intricacies of networking. It was a steep learning curve, but each obstacle only fueled my determination to improve. Alongside these challenges, I also had the opportunity to explore some incredibly fun and engaging rooms like John the Ripper and Hashcat. These experiences were not only enjoyable but also sharpened my skills in password cracking and cryptography. Throughout this journey, I discovered areas where I needed to improve. There were times when I was stuck, and I had to rely on Google searches and walkthroughs to find my way. These moments of struggle taught me the importance of resourcefulness and humility in learning. Reflecting on these 100 days, I realize how much I’ve grown. I’ve learned to identify my weaknesses and turn them into strengths. I’ve embraced challenges as opportunities to learn and pushed myself beyond my comfort zone. This journey has reinforced my passion for cybersecurity and my commitment to continuous improvement. I also want to extend a special thank you to Ryan Patterson for joining me on this journey. Your insights and shared struggles through these rooms have been invaluable. Also, through all the laughs, we accomplished a lot. I enjoyed every confetti screen we shared. 🎊 As I celebrate this milestone, I’m more motivated than ever to keep pushing myself. The world of cybersecurity is vast and ever-evolving, and I am excited to continue my journey, one room at a time. To anyone considering a similar path, I encourage you to take the plunge. Embrace the challenges, enjoy the fun rooms, and never stop learning. #TryHackMe #CyberSecurity #100DayStreak #ContinuousLearning #ChallengeYourself #GrowthMindset

It's always learning season🛡️💡 As I round up an enriching three-month internship with INGRYD Academy in the cybersecurity track, I'm reminded that the path of being a Cybersecurity professional is a journey not a destination; a journey of growth and discovery. These past months have been an exploration of the intricate layers of cybersecurity, with each day presenting new challenges and opportunities for learning. I'm immensely grateful for the mentorship, support, and hands-on experiences gained during this internship EKUNDARE Samuel (R Engr., MSc, Nebosh, CCSM) Victor Achunyke. As I step into the next phase of my cybersecurity adventure, the commitment to continuous learning remains unwavering Here's why continuous learning is essential in the Cybersecurity Industry: - The Threat Landscape Grows Exponentially: New vulnerabilities, malware strains, and attack vectors crop up daily. Staying abreast of these ever-shifting threats requires constant study and exploration. - Technology Leaps and Bounds: Cybersecurity tools and platforms are constantly evolving, offering new capabilities and streamlining workflows. Mastering these upgrades requires dedication and a willingness to embrace the unfamiliar. - Staying Mentally Agile: Cybersecurity demands a nimble mind, one that can think creatively, solve complex problems, and adapt to unexpected situations. Continuous learning keeps your mental muscles toned and ready for anything. Here are a few tips I intend to implement on my learning journey as a cybersecurity professional: - Digest Resources: Books, articles, online courses, podcasts, conferences – dive into the knowledge pool and soak it up! There's no shortage of fantastic content available, so find your preferred format and keep the learning faucet flowing. - Embrace the Community: Network with other cybersecurity professionals, online and offline. Share your learnings, ask questions, and learn from each other's experiences. Collaboration is key! - Challenge Yourself: Step outside your comfort zone and explore new areas of cybersecurity. Whether it's learning a new programming language, delving into forensics, or mastering cryptography, push your boundaries and expand your skillset. Remember, continuous learning is not a burden, it's an opportunity. It's the fuel that keeps our passion burning, our minds sharp, and our defenses strong. Share your favorite cybersecurity learning resources or your own continuous learning hacks in the comments! Let's inspire each other to stay sharp. #Cybersecurity #ContinuousLearning #GrowthMindset #FutureProofYourCareer #CommunityStrong #informationsecurity #cybersecurityawareness

Wrapping up Week 1 at Virtually Testing Foundation, I would say the week was insightful, engaging, intense and educative. From the Group debate presentation to soft skills session, discussions, professional skills and the technical trainings. ✅ Week 1 Updates: 📌 I enjoyed the technical skills session with Joseph Mastromarino from AttackIQ, he taught us how to use the platform to simulate and test attacks following MITRE ATT&CK frameworks and the Top ATT&CK Techniques. Still on Technical Skills, I took courses from the AttackIQ Platform - Foundations of Operationalizing MITRE ATT&CK v13, Application of ATT&CK Navigator, and Top ATT&CK Techniques, at the end of the courses I got badges for each course. ✅ Highlights of what I learnt: TTPs (Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) used by attackers Also, I was able to perform the labs on ATT&CK Navigator, creating layers, risks scoring and more. Using the tool for the first time. I had challenges initially eventually I received guidance when I reached out to my colleagues Abdulazeez M. and Mathias Eleluwor. Thank you! And the last course was quite interesting, learning about the Top ATT&CK Techniques that can be emulated and introduced into cybersecurity strategy at workplaces. 📌 From the persuasion debate session, where each group was asked to present on a topic either for or against, I collaborated with my team members on the project and we were able to scale through. It was quite a technical debate and I’m glad we scaled through. I learnt from the project that success is a collaborative effort. 📌 The soft skill session with Emi O.F was educative and an eye-opener where she talked on taking time for reflection, Reassessing, Celebrating other victories, Collaboration and many more soft skills 📌 My gratitude goes to Virtually Testing Foundation, AttackIQ, my amazing program coordinators Efiong Victor Ita Chisom Vivian Ogbu Blessing Ibe and to my awesome team members Tessa Mmaitsi Ojoajogwu Faruna Mathias Eleluwor for making this journey interesting and worthwhile. #VTFoundation #AttackIQ #cybersecurity #Internship

Exciting News! 🚀 Last week, after two months of dedicated effort, we successfully launched our very first Capture The Flag (CTF) event with Daniel Alejandro Antillano Gonzalez and all the team. For those unfamiliar, a CTF is a dynamic game designed to teach cybersecurity skills in a fun and engaging manner. Drawing from our collective experiences, we crafted an accessible introduction to cybersecurity, intertwining it within an immersive storyline where participants uncovered "flags" to progress to the next level. Moreover, creating this CTF was an invaluable learning experience for me. In designing challenges that truly tested participants' skills, I honed my ability to think critically and strategically. Crafting scenarios that engaged and challenged others deepened my understanding of cybersecurity concepts and techniques. Through this process, I acquired a plethora of skills that will undoubtedly benefit me in my future endeavors. Despite the recent conclusion of the CTF, I'm already diving into new projects. My journey in cybersecurity began just four months ago, without any formal classes. However, through attending events facilitated by my school, participating in CTF challenges, and actively sharing skills, I've rapidly expanded my knowledge base. It's been incredibly rewarding to collaborate with peers, tackle challenges, and inspire fellow learners. Indeed, the peer-to-peer learning experience has proven to be immensely enriching, fostering a culture of continuous growth and innovation. Here's to many more milestones and opportunities to empower others in the realm of cybersecurity! 🛡💻 #CTF #CybersecurityEducation #PeerLearning #school42 ‘Pssssst, I’m already with the next CTF 😉´
