Speaking from my experience in startups, defining seniority can be challenging. For me, it's primarily about the impact you make on the company. While following best practices and understanding what needs to be done in various situations are crucial, coding without referring to documentation is not a defining factor. Seniority is more about the value you bring through your expertise and the influence you have on processes and outcomes. How do you know when you're a senior in your field?

Experienced Frontend Engineer | Building Web Applications With Accessible User Interfaces | React, TypeScript, JavaScript | AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate
How Living and Working in Da Nang, Vietnam Shaped My Approach to Software Development: Though I'm from the United States, I've spent the last two years working as a software engineer in Da Nang at mgm technology partners (one of Germany's 100 largest IT companies). It's been an incredible journey with lots of personal and professional growth. Collaborating with Vietnamese engineers as well as designers and accessibility experts in Germany has broadened my perspective, making me more adaptable and open-minded. The team-oriented culture at mgm technology partners emphasized collaboration through knowledge-sharing sessions and pair programming. This has allowed me to greatly improve my communication and teamwork skills. On the technical side, I learned a lot more about React, TypeScript, JavaScript, and accessibility while developing a comprehensive UI component library. Over the last 2 years I've learned many strategies and techniques for making code reusable, accessible, and optimized for performance. While the past two years have been unforgettable and truly enriching, I’m now looking for new challenges so that I can continue to grow. As such, I am seeking new opportunities as a frontend software engineer. If you’re looking for someone passionate about building intuitive, accessible, and performant web applications, let’s connect! #SoftwareDevelopment #FrontendDevelopment #OpenToWork

Founder at The Odyssey ✈️creating memorable moments through gamified travel experiences. Currently raising $30,000 to support our Spring 2025 Kickstarter campaign. 🧐 Putting AI into perspective.
4000 applicants for 1 role! 1 role! 4000 applicants.😱😱😱 His tips are solid but man, there ain't enough openings for 4000 entry level people. That's a bubble if I ever saw one. But complaining about it on LinkedIn solves nothing either. The whole wait for our parents and grandparents to retire thing isn't working anymore. Medicine is too good. And yes, I'm a whiney millienial who wants to like her work so she quit her 6-figure job, drives lyft, and 🤦♀️ all day. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. We need a new model of work or a new perspective on an old one. What if we just started crowdfunding micro tech startups that serve middle america? 🤔 What if we gave our first customers equity to use us so we could grow? 🤔 What if we started launching more independent brands? like most of the stuff we buy is crap anyway. 💩 If we need jobs that we don't hate, I think we should find a way to make them. Whether you think I'm crazy or not...you should totally follow me. I'm building in public. Either you can laugh at my failure or follow the rise to running a profitable business.
As we're reviewing 4,000 applicants for our entry-level Backend Engineer position at Taoshi, I thought I'd provide some info that I found super helpful that were put in resumes: 1. A brief personal statement, something that explains your interests based on experiences 2. Highlighted languages (either bold or put in your experience heading) you used in your roles & projects. It shows experience, especially when repeated that match desired skills 3. Included university and graduation date. It makes it clear when evaluating that the experience aligns with your expected graduation date For all upcoming graduates, hope this helps in your job search. #hiring

Specific skillset Product Manager job alert! You could be me (but better probably) at Honeycomb. Read on for info. We are seeking 2 (two) (for different teams) Technical Product Managers. Key note! I am NOT the hiring manager. I'm posting the job at the request of one of our recruiters because our recruiting team is delightful and I enjoy helping them. Read this post and if you or someone you know fits the profile, send them my way, I can refer good candidates to the roles! These roles will be similar to my job—you need to have engineering experience. We work in very technical spaces where you have to understand code, infrastructure, and the way that production services work. Having been an engineer (I was a frontend eng for 9 years before moving into PM) will be critical in these roles. You'll be working to define the roadmap for infrastructure-level products and teams. But also, it's a real Product Manager role—Honeycomb serves a wide variety of customers from early stage startups to Fortune 500 companies—and we're constantly trying to identify solutions that help software engineers build faster, with confidence. We regularly face situations where the "best" solution is unclear; we have competing business needs, user needs, and team capacities. This is not a project manager role, you'll need to ramp up on the domain, our customers, and your team to find the right solutions that generate the user outcomes your team is driving towards. Honeycomb is still relatively small (less than 250 employees) so there are immense possibilities for you to collaborate and drive value across the company. In my role, I am regularly context switching from working closely with engineers to sort through technical issues we're facing in code, to sharing our roadmap with customers and prospects, to working with leadership to define strategy and build alignment. If this sounds interesting to you or sounds like someone you know, feel free to message me directly! I'll put the job post in the comments so you can read it, but as mentioned above, I can refer you directly to the job, no cover letter or application needed! EDITED TO ADD: Honeycomb is not able to support H1B visas, so candidates do need to be US or Canadian citizens.

Product oriented mindset for the win !
When I started working as a developer, I did my best to be a factory worker. I just wanted to write code, I didn't care about the product or learning a bit of it. 😅 I'm not gonna lie, the first six months, I didn't have much clue about how our business even makes money. I quickly realized that it's hard to contribute meaningfully if you don't have knowledge about the product and domain. 😄 I think why many developers resort to being mere factory workers is because it's comfortable. However, it's very limiting. And at times, it can be hard to know how to contribute because all you know is writing code. It's also why when I now onboard new engineers like I would do in my last role, I always start by showing the product and how it works and focusing on the users' perspective. 😍 I like to highlight how our users use our product, what features are popular and why they are. Then I dive into the code from a high-level perspective, showing how things are connected and referring back to how the product works. Moral of the rant? You're 100x more valuable by being product-oriented and having a customer-centric mindset

Senior Engineering Manager @Optimizely | Entrepreneur | Consultant | Android | iOS | Cross Platform(Flutter, Xamarin, React-Native) | Mobile DevOps | Cloud Enthusiast | AWS | Infrequent Blogger | Wannabe TechTuber
When should you think you are a staff software engineer? Here is my two cents: - You have a working knowledge of almost all the tech stack that the project relies on. - You have gained expertise in more than one field over the course of your career. - You have been a senior software engineer for more than 3+ years with a total of 7+ years of experience in the industry. (This is debatable. Depth and breadth of experience matter more than the specific number of years.) - You care more about technical stuff than people management. - You can set the technical direction for the current or any new project. - Your work impacts not only your team but also other teams. - You don’t bind yourself to any particular technology. - You can guide any stakeholders if needed. - All the senior engineers look up to you. This is a generic template for a staff engineer. But, there might be cases where someone is only staff in one area. That will depend mostly on the product and team size. For example, a staff engineer in iOS means that a person has more in-depth knowledge of iOS than any senior iOS engineer in the team. #SoftwareEngineering #TechLeadership #CareerDevelopment #SoftwareEngineer #TechnicalLeadership #SeniorEngineer #TechCareer #EngineeringLeadership #EngineeringGrowth #CareerPath #StaffEngineer #ProfessionalDevelopment
