Let's have a 'Like' welcome for the second cohort of New England College nursing students to receive immersive clinical training as part of an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The accelerated program combines classroom instruction with nine months of clinical training at our hospitals in Concord and Laconia. The group of 18 students will be earning as they are learning. Their work hours will contribute to their undergraduate studies, support their introduction to nursing practice, and provide practical on-the-job experience. They will complete their degree in three years instead of four.

Thanks for sharing your expertise Janelle S. How can we apply these learnings to other areas? In broader areas, such as general education, how do we uncover bias and increase equity? Very applicable learnings for many areas here. #highereducation

In the evolving landscape of nursing education, the flipped classroom has gained momentum as a powerful teaching strategy. This approach shifts traditional lecture time to self-paced learning, allowing students to engage with materials like recorded lectures or readings before class. During class time, the focus shifts to active, hands-on learning, including discussions, case studies, and simulations. By placing responsibility on students to prepare in advance, the flipped classroom fosters critical thinking and application of knowledge, which is crucial in nursing education. Students are better prepared to tackle real-world scenarios in clinical settings, and instructors can use class time to guide deeper understanding and problem-solving. Adopting this model can enhance student engagement and improve long-term retention of material. In my experience, incorporating this strategy helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring that students are more confident and competent as they transition into professional roles. #NursingEducation #FlippedClassroom #ActiveLearning #TeachingStrategies

Exciting News! Northern Arizona University College of Nursing at the Yuma campus, a Sensis partner, is offering the groundbreaking Compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (CBSN) program. This initiative aims to address critical workforce shortages in the community by presenting an accelerated path to a nursing degree in just 16 months, compared to the traditional 30-month duration. This program signifies a significant shift in nursing education, highlighting NAU's commitment to tackling pressing healthcare needs. Additionally, it provides scholarship opportunities and fosters partnerships with key healthcare institutions, further demonstrating their dedication to community well-being. In conjunction with this milestone, it's noteworthy to recognize a positive trend: the increasing number of Latinas pursuing higher education. According to Axios Latino, the share of U.S. Latinas with a four-year college degree has nearly quadrupled over the past two decades. This trend underscores the importance Latinas place on higher education as a pathway to high-wage jobs and financial stability. Let's celebrate this progress and continue supporting initiatives that empower communities through education and opportunity. ¡Arriba Latinas! One of the recommendations from the Final Report of the Australian Universities Accord is an increase in quality preparatory courses that are delivered fee-free and funded at a level that reflects the full cost of delivery. These enabling courses prepare students with interrupted educational journeys to qualify for higher degree entry. The short article below outlines the life-changing impact of CQUniversity's STEPS program. As a University, we have seen the transformative power of enabling courses for 38 years - in particular, providing opportunity to students in traditionally under-represented cohorts. Operating since 1986, STEPS (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) is designed to introduce students to the University environment and provide them with the tools for success - importantly, teaching them to be self-directed learners. It's wonderful to see a mum and her son, despite having initial doubts that higher education was for them, giving it a go by enrolling in STEPS and gaining entry to their chosen degree. Sue and Alvin are now both nurses, making a valued contribution to both the public and private health services in Bundaberg - such a great outcome for the community and their family. 'Until you try, you don't know what you can do'.
Bundaberg Mother and son Susan and Alvin White have become a dynamic duo in nursing thanks to CQUniversity’s Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) program. https://ow.ly/cErN50R787j
