Welcome to my latest project! Check the short film with my re-score below :) For this Indie Film Music Contest, I chose to create a deeply atmospheric and intimate piece inspired by the sense of unease felt during the first week of the COVID-19 lockdown. I carefully selected the instrumentation to evoke a profound emotional response and focused intensely on the timbral textures of the soundscape. Brief from the Director: Film Overview: “Shopping Trip,” created during the first week of the COVID-19 lockdown in the UK, encapsulates the profound worry and unease of that period. The monochrome animation takes the viewer on a solitary journey, capturing the surreal experience of a simple shopping trip transformed by the pandemic’s shadow. Scoring Objective: The score should amplify the pervasive sense of dread and the unknown, evoking the emotions felt during that unprecedented time. Your music should transport the audience back to those early lockdown days, mirroring the anxiety and tension. Structure: First Part: Accompany the protagonist’s journey to the store, building tension and culminating at the ‘heat detector’ scene. Second Part: Transition to a sense of cautious relief as the protagonist exits the store, while also reflecting on the realisation that their elderly neighbor might be in need, underscoring a mix of empathy and concern. Guidelines: Capture the emotional journey from dread to relief, highlighting the contrasts in the protagonist’s experience. Use soundscapes that evoke the eerie, isolated atmosphere of lockdown. Aim to create a score that is both haunting and empathetic, resonating with the audience’s own memories and emotions from that time. This film completely relies on your music to tell the story on the audio site of it. Mature-age university music student skilling up for a second career in film/television & video games music/audio.
Quick call out for help. I'm looking for narrative motion picture footage that I can use with permissions for academic and portfolio publishing to score against for uni. I need three pieces of footage 3-5 minutes long at picture lock with diegetic sound, dialogue and sound FX, but no music. If you're a film producer - amateur or otherwise - I'd love to hear from you if you're be willing to have a final year composition student produce some professional standard music to accompany your film. I'll be using MIDI mock-ups, not live orchestras. I compose in styles ranging from avante-garde to neo-romantic, with instrumentation ranging from full symphonic orchestras to big-bands to modular or more mainstream synthesizers and more typical of pop/rock/funk ensembles. If you're able to help, hit me back with a DM or permissions for me to DM you. For the record, use permissions are an academic integrity requirement, which have to come from content owners. Being a final year student, being able to publish portfolio outputs is a stated goal. Happy to do some haggling over rights and reciprocality. #FilmMakers #HelpRequest #Composing #UniStudent

You can search IMDB by Company. For instance I can see to some extent what publishers are getting placements on what shows/films. The productions don't always list music companies in the credits but generally prominent companies get listed. For instance one can see that "Pond5", which supplies a few different kinds of media has achieved several thousand placements of content across many levels of productions. It's a way to find many different kinds of music providers (and others) in ways that wouldn't normally be obvious or popular. If you see a lot of projects, that can mean some kind of blanket arrangement is at play, just another method to gauge some aspects of a company of interest.

🎬🎼 As filmmakers, ensuring the music budget aligns with our vision is crucial. Here are two vital rules to follow when navigating the budget for the music of a film: 1. Prioritize Quality over Quantity: While it may be tempting to include numerous tracks or hire multiple composers, quality should always take precedence. Invest in talented composers, musicians, and sound engineers who can elevate your film through their craft. A single, well-composed piece can have a more significant impact than several mediocre ones. 2. Plan Ahead and Allocate Adequate Resources: Budgeting for music should begin early in the filmmaking process. Assess the scope of your project, including the type of music required, licensing fees, and production costs. Allocate sufficient resources to ensure that the music enhances the storytelling without compromising other aspects of production. By adhering to these rules, we can create cinematic experiences that resonate with audiences on a deeper level. Remember, the right music can elevate a film from good to unforgettable. #FilmProduction #MusicBudgeting #CreativeProcess 🎥🎶

Our short film, FLITE, presented a time-old challenge: how best to combine creativity and technical innovation to tell stories that couldn't otherwise be told. With a complex physical shoot and a script that relied on both high-stakes action and nuanced human performance, FLITE drew on four decades of experience, understanding and innovation to solve its manifold challenges. FUSE - Framestore Unreal Shot Engine - was the result. This short behind-the-scenes film lifts the veil on FUSE, and how it allowed us to move away from the traditionally linear nature of VFX and into a new parallel workflow. This allowed for greater flexibility and collaboration, and the chance to make better, fully-informed decisions far earlier in the filmmaking process. https://lnkd.in/eVwCHCPf #unrealengine #filmmaking #behindthescenes #VFX
