Ernesto Capdevila's "Feeling Without Belonging" is a poignant painted wood sculpture that masterfully captures the tension of existing between two worlds. A central figure, whose expression seems caught between resolve and vulnerability, has a canoe piercing through its chest where the heart would reside. Inside the canoe, two small figures sit, seemingly detached yet part of the central subject’s internal world. This jarring juxtaposition of figures and objects serves as a metaphor for displacement, navigating through spaces both emotional and physical. The work speaks directly to the theme of The Space in Between, embodying the struggle of belonging while suspended between two identities, two places, or two states of being. Capdevila's use of raw, stripped-down wood highlights the fragility and rawness of this human experience, evoking a sense of isolation and introspection. This sculpture powerfully explores the notion that while one may traverse through different landscapes or life experiences, the inner sense of belonging remains elusive, tethered somewhere between past and present, between places we call home and those we leave behind. #ernestocapdevila #contemporaryart #fineart #representationalart #thespaceinbetween #condecontemporary #artinmiami #artexhibition

Have a nice week! Sculpture and light art are two significant disciplines in the art world. Sculpture involves the three-dimensional shaping of materials, while light art transforms space and emotions through the use of light. The combination of these two art forms adds dynamism and movement to sculptures while altering the viewer's perception. Light highlights the form and surface of the sculpture, creating different perspectives through the play of shadows. #lightart #lightinstalation #lightingdesign #sculpture #art

Janet Echelman’s newest permanent work, Bending Arc, is composed of 1,662,528 knots and 180 miles of twine, the aerial sculpture spans 424 feet and measures 72 feet at its tallest point. Echelman’s art embraces change. The monumental sculpture gently billows above the Pier District, allowing the wind to create a choreography of constantly changing shape in the sculpture’s soft surface. The sculpture’s color also transforms at every moment while its surface interplays with natural and projected light. The head in the picture is that of "Lajuwa,” The usurper palace courtier of Ife", Ile-Ife. dated 12th -15th century. One of the few famous ile-ife Terracotta head sculpture that lies in famous Museum’s and galleries all over the world. What was the cause, what led to the decline of the art in Ile-Ife ? Lajuwa was the Sarun, the Palace Courtier to Ooni Aworokolofi, a very old man. After his death Lajuwa commissioned the sculptors to do his replica and he mounted this on throne. While Lajuwa ruled Ife indirectly telling the people, the Ooni was too old, thus he pretended to taking instructions from the Ooni statue. There were whispers that he must have colluded with the Princes and Princess to deceive the people of Ife. How true? We can never tell. However, when his deception was discovered, Lajuwa was put on trial and was sentenced to death by beheading, with all the artists and sculptors by the succeeding Ooni at a place call Atiba Grove. And so, Lajuwa wrote himself into history because today, he is the patron 'saint' of the Emese's or the palace courtiers of Ife. The mass killings of the artist ushered in the decline of the art industry in Ile-Ife. Today the Ife terracotta works constitute a large and diverse corpus that includes sculptures and vessels depicting human, animal, and otherworldly subjects. These works vary in size from nearly life-size, full-length figures to tiny figurines only six inches high, and range in style from extreme naturalism to abstract forms. A true testament of a sophisticated civilization that was way ahead of its time. I've been reflecting on the intersection of creativity and essentialism. As an enthusiast of this concept, I was wondering how to strike a balance between the exhilaration of entering a flow state, researching, finding inspiration, and the potential pitfall of overthinking during the development of a creative idea. My mind immediately took me to the craftsmanship of Italian sculptures. Consider Michelangelo, who spent nearly three years crafting his masterpiece, the sculpture of David. His process involved countless sketches, drawings, and the creation of small-scale terracotta and wax models. Through meticulous attention to detail, a mere block of white marble metamorphosed into a work of art, capturing angles, light, and the profound focus of the artist. In line with Leonardo da Vinci's wisdom, who famously said, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication," sometimes, the key lies in concentrating on a singular aspect and mastering it to craft our own creative masterpiece. So, what's your secret to maintaining laser focus on your creative endeavours? #creativity #essentialism #focus

Sculptures are known to add a touch of elegance to any space that welcomes them. The movements seen in contemporary sculpture range across geometric abstraction, cubism, surrealism, pop art and installation art among others. The materials used in sculpture can range from clay to stone, and also include wood, marble, wax, plaster and various different types of metal. More and more different types of techniques continue to be incorporated into this art form as new materials are being developed, such as different kinds of resins or plastics that allow sculpture to expand its artistic horizons. Sculpture has been used to create original and fascinating works of art and also to recreate and portray figures, characters, objects, people and animals. These figures may be a fully realistic representation or they may be entirely abstract, depicting the artist’s vision of a specific aspect. What’s your opinion on this ? The Engaging Power of Active Parametric Sculpture One of the most striking visual features of moire sculpture, is the translucency of the woven Stainless Steel Canvas. This engages the viewer to look inside the physical art. Lighting is what animates the moire geometry of the sculpture's three dimensional forms and proportions. Over the past 16 years of experimenting with this material, I have developed techniques to control the engaging Active Parametric of the sculpted Moire Patterns. www.amoire.ca Talk to the artist.
