LEADING FROM THE FRONT: PERSONAL EXPERIENCE "Facing a productivity crisis in my Dredging and Land Reclamation project, I knew action was essential. With the team's morale sinking, I made a bold decision: to lead from the front. Despite retiring eight years prior as a Senior Dredge Master, I stepped back into the lever room and took charge and ran a full shift, it turned out to be the best we've had (Note: Understanding, Mastering and interpreting your gauges is very important to you as a Dredge Master) My actions spoke volumes. Witnessing firsthand my commitment and capability reignited their drive. They saw that if I could do it, so could they. I took some.hours to retrain the Dredge Masters on leadership, review project scope, gauge interpretation, communication, documentation etc. From that day on, attitudes shifted, dedication soared, and our production skyrocketed. This approach inspires and motivates team members to follow suit, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence. Leading by example can truly transform outcomes." Once I grasped this concept, it was transformative. Adopting the mindset that everything happens for a reason—that things don't happen TO you but FOR you—opened up a new way of seeing life. It instilled in me a deep, soul-level trust that God is with us here. Backstory: When I was 10, I faced an immense tragedy when my dad was fatally injured in a construction accident involving a crane. This was a seismic shift for my family and me. In the absence of my father, I had to mature swiftly. As the eldest sibling and the only male in the house, the responsibility to lead fell on my shoulders. This accelerated my growth, pushing me to work diligently and live responsibly from a young age. Today, as a project manager for Metropolitan Steel, one of my key responsibilities is assisting in developing engineered crane procedures—a role that holds not just operational importance but a deeply personal significance. Every day, I'm driven by a mission to ensure the safety of workers like my father, who put their lives on the line to provide for their families. I am profoundly grateful for every twist and turn in my life—every challenge leads to growth! My hope for each of you is that you can cultivate a similar sense of gratitude and resilience.
