Do you have someone to call in case of an unexpected illness or injury? If you do, you are in the minority. When struck with an acute illness or injury, most are left with the decision to wait for your doctor’s office to call back or head out to the local urgent care or ER. EM board certified physicians are experts in navigating the healthcare system and providing acute care. They can even help determine if a hospital visit is necessary or may be able to provide urgent care directly to you and your loved ones in the confines of your own home. Emergency Medicine continues developing solutions to some of today’s most pressing healthcare challenges. Here it has developed a care model for delivering in-home care to patients. Previously, the “Acute Unscheduled Care Model” an alternative payment model was developed by the American College of Emergency Physicians; the data from the model uncoverd a staggering number of Medicare patients who had literally no primary care physician connection in the community. The Specialty continues to offer innovative and unique care initiatives to address very pressing issues. The primary care access problem just hit home. I just experienced it myself in Boca Raton, Florida. There were no high quality PCPs to be found who were not concierge physicians. Eventually, there was no choice but to join a concierge medical practice, which I recognize most others do not have the means to even consider. That is why at SOAP Health, we continue to develop an application, already deployed in market, to enable primary care providers to see more people SOAP helps them know well, make more money by providing better care, and work less hard by vastly improved productivity. It’s working great! If your PCP is backlogged, ask him or her to consider SOAP. You’ll be doing yourself and them a huge favor. #primarycareshortage #pcp #primarycare #internalmedicine https://lnkd.in/eTJEJhPd

Primary care is the solution to ER overcrowding - not more urgent care. We saw an explosion of urgent care in the 1990’s with many markets becoming over-saturated with this important clinical asset. And still our ERs are jammed up with patients who could have been managed more proactively in a primary care setting. We need to dig deeper to get at the root cause of this symptom. A century of underinvestment in primary care has led us to this place. At some point, our elected leaders will need to face this reality and begin to turn federal and state policy towards the national rebuilding of our primary care infrastructure. #primarycare #nationalinfrastructure

An Illinois #nursinghome has asked the state’s Supreme Court to adopt a broad interpretation of a COVID-19 #immunity provision, arguing that the governor “knew how” to include more limitations in a 2020 executive order had he intended to do so. The court’s decision will be closely watched as other states grapple with exactly how to interpret executive orders and emergency management provisions that offered healthcare providers protections in exchange for their continued acceptance of COVID patients. Excelas’ robust Comprehensive Integrated Timeline Tool (CITT, pronounced “kit”) allows clients to incorporate key data with guidelines, regulations and standards in a variety of situations, including COVID. #health #healthcare #emergencypreparednes #governorsorder #covid #covid19 #executiveorders #regulatorycompliance Jean Bourgeois, MBA, RHIA Beth Wilson Cathy Napoli Sharon Ezzone, MBA Grace Jindra Melinda Mallari Carey Marousek https://lnkd.in/ddDq4UTU

Major concerns raised in today’s media about preventable deaths and morbidity cases at one of Victoria’s key regional public hospitals. The Commonwealth and State Hospital Agreement is under negotiation and should seriously consider how public hospitals can be improved through structural reforms that enhance efficiency and performance so that better health outcomes are achieved for public hospital patients. —- “Insiders say preventable deaths and morbidity cases…could have been avoided as they slam the health service as a “disaster” and “the worst place” they’ve worked. At least seven patients since 2022 have died in tragedies whistleblowers say could have been avoided… In a case reported to Safer Care Victoria last year, a patient with a ruptured appendix was not operated on for a full 24 hours after presenting at the emergency department. Another died at the facility having never being seen by the on-call doctor, which staff believed contributed to their death. Health whistleblowers have claimed there are major issues in the hospital’s surgical unit in Traralgon. A clinician labelled the hospital “the worst” they had ever worked at. There were also allegations of medical negligence, inadequate treatment and misdiagnoses within the regional hospital’s surgical unit during 2022 and 2023.” —- Members Health Fund Alliance #peoplenotprofit #healthcare #healthinsurance #healthfund #mhfa #publichospitals #memberowned https://lnkd.in/gpWb8xGM.
