Yesterday, several members of the Conexus Indiana team attended the launch of “Workforce 2040: Pathways to Prosperity” by the Sagamore Institute. The event featured a panel discussion with a dynamic group of speakers, exploring key factors that will shape Indiana’s future workforce, including technology, education and a shrinking population. Our President & CEO, Frederick Cartwright, authored a chapter in the book on "Manufacturing Renaissance" which outlines what a renaissance would entail and what challenges and opportunities await the industry. Thank you to our partners at Ivy Tech Community College, Butler University, Purdue University and the Indiana Manufacturers Association for contributing valuable insights to the piece. We'll be sharing some of those insights in the coming days. And thank you the Sagamore Institute for the opportunity to discuss this important topic. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gt37W7Hq

Empowering clients with Info, Numbers, Data: all tools used to educate and inform Buyers and Sellers in Central Ohio: Columbus, New Albany, Westerville, Gahanna, Worthington, Granville, Newark & beyond. I use deep data!
Columbus has worked co- operatively for many years to "slowly build" a successful economic platform. It's not an overnight success story, but a multi-decade, incremental success. Business, government (state & local) finding ways to attract; keep; grow companies, industries and people. Transforming the old, rundown, dilapidating infrastructure, housing & forgotten areas and bringing them back to life as vibrant, attractive places(again). Not all at once, but little by little. Domino's but on a city & region basis. Look at actions since the 1970's through now. Think of downtown Columbus in 1970 vs today. Small pockets of good just keep spilling over to neighboring areas. Current leadership is deserving of recognition but Central Ohio should be equally thankful to the past leaders & visionaries who saw greatness and success before Intel or even The Limited or Wendy's. 2020's successes are built on the past. That's a good model for any metro to follow. Years of small successes lead the Columbus/ Central Ohio region to the recent sudden success! Teams win. Great players often don't accomplish much without the help of the team. #crainscleveland #clevelandohio #cbus #614 #columbusohio #columbus #intel #intelohio #ColumbusRegion #columbusalive #columbusbloggers #centralohiorealestate #centralohio #economicdevelopment #franklincounty #lickingcounty #delawarecounty #fairfieldcounty #pickawaycounty #madisoncounty #unioncounty #planning #development

We hosted over 100 FutureMakers for the 9th FutureMakers Coalition Breakfast of Champions on September 12th. It was an exciting morning filled with reflections on what we can accomplish when we work together, how our work aligns with the work of the Florida Chamber of Commerce with a fantastic keynote address from Mark Wilson, and what is ahead as we approach 2025. A couple of highlights: - FutureMakers Coalition has increased attainment from 39% to 44.3% (2022). That’s 62,613 credentials since we got started. - FutureMakers Coalition has distributed $10M to partners since 2020. What FutureMakers do over the next year will determine if we reach our 55% goal. What are you willing to do to help transform the workforce in SWFL?

This was a great webinar discussing the impact of career readiness and the many factors that play into it at the college/university level. Take the time to listen!
If you missed this week's Whiteboard Advisors webinar about the latest Strada Education Foundation + The Burning Glass Institute report "Talent Disrupted" don't worry! We recorded the conversation! We kicked off with an overview of the report and key findings from Matt Sigelman, president of The Burning Glass Institute. We followed with a robust discussion about the research and the implications of the findings with Strada Education Foundation CEO Stephen Moret, Louisiana Board of Regents Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed, Ph.D., Handshake Chief Education Strategy Officer Christine Y. Cruzvergara and New York Times bestselling author Lindsey Pollak. I am so grateful to my colleagues for spending time reflecting on the current state of underemployment among #highered graduates. More importantly, I was inspired by the solutions that both exist across our colleges, universities and employer partners and the ones that will emerge through new collaborations. ❌ FIVE MANUFACTURING MYTHS❌ As I shared previously (https://lnkd.in/dVKMKi8r) I recently spoke at The City Club of Cleveland on the so-called demise of manufacturing and the myths that hold us back from our full potential. (You can watch the speech here: https://lnkd.in/dQSsKpwQ) I’m sharing the five myths in a series of posts... Here's MYTH #3...Manufacturing is our past NOT our future. Been there done that, we need something new. Really? Why are we so obsessed with new? Back to the Superman theme that inspired my City Club speech…. Superman was the first superhero, debuting in 1938. Hundreds of shiny new heroes have graced the big and small screens since then, but we haven’t thrown out Superman. 13 movies, 15 TV shows, thousands of comic books. Superman will never go extinct, and neither will manufacturing. Northeast Ohio was built on manufacturing. It’s in our DNA. For the past 100 years, even in the worst of times manufacturing has always been the single largest driver of Northeast Ohio’s economy. We don’t need a new “superhero" industry. We just need to invest in the one we have. And we can’t be constrained by what we THINK manufacturing is. Yes, we still make more airplane and truck parts than any other state. Yes, we do all the traditional things. But innovation is also in our DNA. We were the Silicon Valley of the steel age. And that’s who we can be again. The next medical marvel could be invented and made here. Water could be cleaner and safer because of technology we’re pioneering here. EVs could be more affordable because we make the parts more efficiently, right here. Virtually all the advances we need in our world right now involve manufacturing. Why would we want to move away from this? When you watch the news and see all the jobs and companies we’ve attracted and grown here with incentives…80% of all those incentives go to manufacturing and manufacturing-related companies. Manufacturing is very much our future. Here’s Lincoln Electric’s Past CEO and Executive Chairman Chris Mapes on the opportunity he sees in front of us. Y'all, we're back with more 🔥 from my convo with Cynthia Hutchison, CEO of the World Economic Forum's US Center for Advanced Manufacturing! 🎙️🏭 Cynthia dropped some hard truths about diversity in manufacturing at the IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show Creators Lounge: "We don't know how to handle people with disabilities and from historically resilient communities... You can't simply reopen the door. You have to have a strategy to go find the people you were busy disenfranchising and bring them back in." This hits home, MFG Fam. It's exactly what The New American Manufacturing Renaissance is all about - bringing opportunity back to ALL our communities. 💪🏽💪🏿💪🏻 Key takeaways: 1. We've narrowed our talent pool for too long 2. Reopening doors isn't enough - we need active outreach 3. It's hard work, but it's necessary work I've been saying it: "When the people stop coming to the trades, we've got to bring the trades back to the people." Check this: The US Center for Advanced Manufacturing just dropped their 2024 State of US Manufacturing Report. It's digging deep into how digital tech is reshaping our industry and the challenges we're facing. Required reading for anyone serious about the future of manufacturing! 📚🚀 This is why I'm out here every day, why I created the Manufacturing Renaissance Playbook. We're not just talking about change - we're making it happen. From the #BlueCollarBaller merch to the MFG Tour, it's all about bringing manufacturing opportunities to every corner of America. ❌ FIVE MANUFACTURING MYTHS❌ As I shared previously (https://lnkd.in/dVKMKi8r) I recently spoke at The City Club of Cleveland on the so-called demise of manufacturing and the myths that hold us back from reaching our full potential. (You can watch the speech here: https://lnkd.in/dQSsKpwQ) I’m sharing the five myths in a series of posts... Here's MYTH #4...There’s a silver bullet for Northeast Ohio. Something sitting just outside where we can see. If only we were San Francisco or Austin or my personal favorite – Pittsburgh – if we had done what they did, when they did it – then things would be better. If only we focused on Health IT – tech eds and meds, that would do it. Or the biggie – if only we’d gotten Intel that would have saved us. Yes, Intel is the largest single private sector company investment in the history of Ohio. It’s going to create a lot of jobs and do a lot of good. But it’s still not a silver bullet. Systemic change and economic development are difficult, messy, and take a long time. We need a continuous string of base hits and even walks on issue after issue. We need sustained energy over decades. Think about Intel – to make that deal happen Les Wexner developed the communities around it 30 years ago. The journey will outlast every single one of us, and we must keep passing the baton. I wasn’t even born when community leaders came together to form MAGNET to grow manufacturing. And in 2024 we’re celebrating our 40th anniversary! We just keep reinventing ourselves and our impact. Back to the theme of my speech, even Superman has died and been reborn six times. He doesn’t give up and we don’t either. Here’s Kevin Johnson, a manufacturing tech leader, with his take on what reinventing manufacturing should look like. Our future is not one thing – it’s a unique combination of several things (with manufacturing as the foundation) that no other region can steal or duplicate. There is no silver bullet. The only "secret" is sustained focus on these engines of growth over decades. 💣 "$7.50 an hour is SINFUL." 💣 That's what Cynthia Hutchison , CEO of the World Economic Forum's US Center for Advanced Manufacturing, dropped in our chat at IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show CreatorsLounge. And she's DAMN RIGHT ✅️ Let's break this down: • $7.50/hour = $15,600/year (full-time) 😱 • Average starting wage in manufacturing? $23.00/hour = $47,840/year 💰 That's the difference between food stamps and family vacations, folks. Manufacturing isn't just a job - it's an elevator to the middle class. But here's the kicker: de-industrialization has been kicking that elevator down for decades. • In 1980, 19.3% of U.S. jobs were in manufacturing • Today? It's down to 8.4% No wonder the middle class is shrinking! We shipped out our factories and with them, our ticket to financial stability. But listen up: The New American Manufacturing Renaissance is bringing that elevator back up. We're talking high-tech, high-skill, high-wage jobs that can support families and rebuild communities. Want to hear more? I'm dropping knowledge bombs on this very topic at the #SHIFT2024 Conference in Memphis right now. We're talking equitable workforce solutions that can transform lives and communities. It's time we stop treating manufacturing like a fallback and start seeing it for what it is - a pathway to prosperity. Who's ready to ride this elevator up? Drop a 🛗 in the comments if you're with me! #ManufacturingJobs #MiddleClassComeback #SHIFTConference Yo I'm Drew "The MFG" Crowe, a manufacturing workforce innovator and advocate for the New American Manufacturing Renaissance. It's not enough to have a strategic location and an excellent workforce if we want to win business. We have to compete. And Illinois is becoming a great competitor. #beinillinois JB Pritzker, Don Harmon, and Emanuel “Chris” Welch have led the policy changes in Springfield. Andy Manar, Claire L., Kristin Richards, Casimir Peters, and Lisa Clemmons Stott have executed the policies beautifully. Business leaders like Leonard P. Singh, Wendell Dallas, Torrence Hinton, Gil C. Quiniones, and Rebecca B. Losli, PE have worked to provide the infrastructure for other companies to grow in Illinois. And civic leaders like the IMA's Mark Denzler, IMEC's David Boulay, P33's Brad Henderson, UIUC's Laura Appenzeller, and so many more make Team Illinois work. We still have a lot of work to do, but we have the right team to win. https://lnkd.in/gHF_zVhS
