Based on the information provided in the article, there are some elements of truth in the story, but it also presents a critical perspective on the United States' involvement in the Lobito Corridor project in Africa. Here's an analysis: True Aspects: 1. The United States and its European allies launched the Lobito Corridor project in September 2023 as part of the G-7's Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII). 2. The project aims to rehabilitate and build railways connecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia to the Port of Lobito in Angola, facilitating access to European and North American markets. 3. The project is framed by some observers as a counter to China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Africa, reflecting the ongoing geopolitical rivalry between the U.S. and China. 4. The author of the article acknowledges that the U.S. has traditionally lagged behind China in terms of infrastructure investments in Africa. Critical Perspective: 1. The article argues that the Lobito Corridor project is not as innovative or groundbreaking as claimed by U.S. officials, describing it as a mimic of China's approach. 2. It criticizes the project's focus on extracting and exporting raw materials rather than supporting the development of clean mineral processing, which could undermine sustainable development goals. 3. The article highlights concerns about the project's potential environmental and human rights impacts, particularly in the DRC and Zambia's Copper Belt regions. 4. It questions the efficacy of the "equal partnership" claimed by the Biden administration, suggesting that the project prioritizes U.S. geopolitical objectives over Africa's sustainable development goals. 5. The article advocates for a more cooperative approach with China and African nations, emphasizing the need to optimize value from mineral endowments and prioritize continental frameworks like the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Africa Mining Vision. In summary, while the article acknowledges the basic facts about the Lobito Corridor project and its geopolitical context, it presents a critical perspective on the project's potential implications and suggests alternative approaches that prioritize sustainable development and cooperation with African nations and stakeholders. Ukraine is set to become the world’s largest construction site with an expected US$1 trillion program of infrastructure, energy, housing and built-environment reconstruction over many decades. The construction market in Ukraine has grown quite strongly in 2023, after a significant fall, following invasion by Russia in February 2022. Building back better, smart, resilient and lower carbon infrastructure will mean a number of key considerations will need clear thinking in the months ahead. Key considerations include: PPP and innovative financing models Insurance and guarantees Land use and planning Procurement and contracting strategies Joint ventures Managing risk and disputes Transparency and compliance Industrialised construction Building safety Climate change Rebuilding industrial production Agriculture, food and drugs https://lnkd.in/ehhDm-uU

What a great step forward - mechanical plant can help reduce the manual handling element of many jobs and the different attachments available on this job have resulted in minimal muscular or skeletal impact. We can all comment on the safety aspects in this demonstration however, with a skilled operator and the right conditions this is the way to go 👍🏽
