This is both: bold and stupid, but I will do it anyway ... Below is my rank of strategies of several EU automotive brands: It is a summary of their recent statements about the current status of Vision 2035 from my point of view. For those not involved in this topic, it means that we will not produce any cars with combustion engines after this date for the EU market. I put my short summary behind the brand name and on the next line I make a short comment on why it is at the position in this list. Here we go: 1. Stellantis - ”When there is a need we can switch from EV to combustion propulsion using our platform solutions.” This is a bold and pragmatic approach which puts the concern into a position where it can decide and change in future easily. 2. Skoda - ”No matter what, we will produce combustion engine cars after 2035, mainly for Asia.” Pragmatic and aimed at tackling new markets where they can utilize their know-how and good price-to-value solutions. 3. BWM - ”Regulations cannot be successful when there is no real need for it from the market.” Yes, but following just market needs won't bring success in the long term. I am missing a strong statement of what they will do and how. What makes sense to them? 4. Mercedes Benz - ”We should be cautious about the regulations and we should get more support from the politics.” Being cautious is good. However, waiting for a revelation in the form of a political decision from the EU is a failed concept. 5. Audi - ”No matter what, there is no way back from the EV path.” Sticking to a bad strategy and refusing to change perspective according to the obvious conditions of the market is a failed concept every time. The ones who are not willing to change will most probably. And yes, I think that the 2035 vision was a bad decision, however, with a good intention. 6. VW - ”Our society should stick to what was decided and continue with our vision 2035.” Honorably expressed but here I would have the same comment as I wrote in the point above for Audi … I know that I did not include all the details. It's just a fun thought experiment to me. However, I am really curious if I got something right. What do you think? Who will be the winner in around 10 years? P.S.
