Today is Fentanyl Awareness & Prevention Day. In #Arizona there is a #fentanyl epidemic that has transformed families and taken lives. Recent data from the Common Sense Institute Arizona reports that the economic impact cost Arizona $58 billion last year. That includes healthcare cost. Nearly 2,000 Arizonans died from opioid overdoses in 2023. That number has doubled since it was declared a public health #emergency in 2017. From 2015 to 2019 the cost from opioid related hospitalization has surged 120% to $676 million. This pressure on our fragile #healthcare system continues to grow as fentanyl use increases. We #encourage medical professionals to get involved and become informed on #advocacy and #policy issues that have a direct consequence on our healthcare community, patient care, and physician wellness.
