Getting them to show up. ⚡ New feature release #4: Attendance tests If you've never managed blue collar workers, you might be shocked to find out that the biggest challenge is just getting workers to show up on time! Workers no-show to interviews. Workers no-show for the first day. Workers show up for the first day and then don't show up for the second day. To combat the reliability epidemic, we launched an attendance test as part of the worker account set up process. It goes like this: 1. An applicant must schedule a 2 minute intro video for one of the slots the following day 2. They are given a 30 minute window to record that 2 minute video 3. If they miss the window, they cannot retry for 6 months 4. The app does not remind or notify them, they are expected to set their own reminders. A whopping 70% of applicants fail to record within the 30 minute window! 🤯 🤯 The purpose of this attendance test is to simulate showing up for a scheduled interview or first shift, and identify reliable candidates. Since implementing this, our no-show, late-show, and last-minute cancellation rates have dramatically decreased. One of the best things about working in hospitality is that you can join at any stage of life - something which we have seen in evidence at The Wolseley Hospitality Group. Yesterday we met with our friends at Invicta to discuss ramp up and peak plans for 2024, working in a collaborative and cohesive partnership to deliver an efficient and successful supply of labour.. For me this demonstrates that competitors are not always in competition with each other and that there are benefits from having positive and trusted partnerships with competitors, especially for workers and the end user. Westfalia Fruit moved to this arrangement last year, by bringing together two providers who respect, trust and value each others contribution to achieve a shared common goal. Albeit multi, shared or dual supply arrangements can be perceived to de-risk a labour supply, they can often be disruptive, distracting and counterintuitive to a full and effective supply of labour. Having two providers that meet proactively to discuss the supply, the service, compliance, and best practise, as well as a cooperative approach to covering gaps that occur, not only protects the supply from risk, it creates a uniformed standard across the entire supply, bringing harmony to the workforce and all those stakeholders using it.
