During our current #hiring drive at Flutch, I've come to realize that it's unrealistic to expect a perfect candidate profile in job descriptions. Think about it. When you try to pinpoint exactly: - Who will do the work, - How they'll go about it, - What tasks they'll handle, and - For how long they'll be involved, you inevitably introduce a lot of biases. And let's be honest, not all of these biases are fair or kind. #JD #Hiring

What a job candidate has done before isn't relevant. That's right... read that again. What a job candidate has done before isn't relevant. What matters is what they will do for you with what they've learned. I would love to see a resume that focused not on quantifiable achievements but rather on what the person learned from that role. That provides far more insight about how they'll behave in the future. #HireBetter
Are we hiring for the past or the future? It’s easy to get caught up in a candidate’s history, but I believe we often overlook a crucial factor: their potential. Hiring based on past achievements is like driving while only looking in the rearview mirror. Let's start focusing on the road ahead. What candidates can learn, how they can grow, and the new directions they can take us. It's not just about where they've been, but where they can go with the right opportunities.

I think the role of luck is severely downplayed in your growth in an organisation. There are two kinds of luck : 1. Hiring Fitment luck - where you are lucky enough to be hired at a place where you instantly fit. With the people, culture, working styles, values and vision of the org 2. Growth opportunity luck - this is were you were lucky enough that a new position opened up & you are the right person to grab onto this! This might be due to someone above you, moving on. Or a new expansion etc. All of this demands hard work, hustle & self growth as a pre requisite for you to be able to make the best of the opportunity. But the fact that luck plays a massive part for these opportunities to even unclock, isn’t spoken of enough. How do you generate the surface area of luck, that helps you to maximise these opportunities? That’s for another post 😃 #luck #careers #career #growth #culture

CEO, JUMPSTART SC || Building Transformational Opportunities || Breaking Cycles of Crime & Addiction || Connecting You With Opportunities to Make an Undeniable Impact in the World
Think hiring ex-offenders is risky? So did Chris Phillips. Chris owns Sun Surveillance—a security company in Spartanburg. On the surface, it doesn’t make sense: A security company hiring an ex-offender. Really? But in 2009, Chris did just that. He felt God telling him to help a specific ex-offender—James. Chris felt convicted he needed to be part of that young man’s fresh start. So Chris took a chance on James’s second chance. James is still working for Chris today 15 years later. And Sun Surveillance has become one of our partners, hiring 25 ex-offenders since then. Here’s the deal: Is it a risk to hire an ex-offender? Sure. But we have 40+ employment partners at JUMSPTART SC. They have found the reward greatly outweighs the risk. Let’s find the next Chris and James story together. Share this post if you believe in second chances, too. ===== See my Featured section to: → Schedule a time to learn about JUMPSTART → Check out our 2023 Impact Report → Watch a video testimony of how I went from Criminal to Christ Follower #secondchances #secondchancehiring #reentrymatters #prisonministry
