Healing with the help of AI Artificial intelligence is changing health care. It promises better diagnoses and fewer mistakes and all in less time. While some associate AI with a frightening dystopian future, many doctors see it as a source of support. The average number of doctors per 1,000 people in 2020 was 3.56, based on 27 countries. AI can prove to be a blessing. Brilliant documentary on how AI can help humans to fight against chronic diseases. AI can sequence genomes faster to battle future pandemics. https://lnkd.in/gTG5EacV #ai #artificialintelligence #medical #medicine #aiinhealthcare #aiinmedicine

Human factors, the general field that investigates that grey area between technology and its use by humans, has been a somewhat quiet figure in the public sphere. But given the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI), the questions this field answers are more important than ever. How does the unpredictability of human nature affect the use of AI in health and other systems? Can we use AI to better understand the wider and complex medical system in which care is delivered for patients? And most importantly, how do we test AI to determine its safety in human decision-making? In this thought-provoking and insightful AIML Medium piece, AIML PhD student and cognitive psychology researcher Lana Tikhomirov discusses the importance of answering these questions as well as determining where AI fits within broader socio-technical systems. #artificialintelligence #health Click here to read ➡ https://lnkd.in/gb3y9Y6t 📣 Medium users, please follow AIML's Medium page for more absorbing and inspiring articles from AIML members on their involvement in the cutting-edge realm of artificial intelligence.

Interesting Intelligent Health.tech interview with Benyamin Deldar and David Hanbury from Deep Medical about their groundbreaking work using #AI to revolutionise patient scheduling. Did you know that missed appointments and last-minute cancellations cost the #NHS nearly £2 billion annually? Deep Medical is tackling this head-on by developing AI models that predict patient no-shows and cancellations up to two weeks in advance. By analyzing vast, anonymized datasets (without needing sensitive health records), their technology enables hospitals to make data-driven scheduling decisions. The impact could be massive—potentially unlocking millions of appointments each year and reducing healthcare inequities. Their platform is already showing promising results in pilot programs across multiple NHS sites. But it's not just about efficiency. Ben and David discuss how their AI is designed with equity in mind, aiming to engage underserved populations and redesign care pathways. It's about augmenting, not replacing, human expertise to deliver the right care to the right people. Exciting times ahead as Deep Medical scales up within the NHS and eventually expands to other geographies. Great to to see #AI being used to tackle such pressing healthcare challenges and improve patient outcomes. #AI #HealthTech #PatientExperience #NHS #HealthcareInnovation https://lnkd.in/e9779Ujs

In a groundbreaking proposal, researchers led by Dr. Nigam Shah from Stanford University advocate for a public-private partnership to establish a nationwide network of health AI assurance labs. Featured in JAMA, their vision aims to ensure the accuracy and security of AI models in healthcare. In an exclusive interview with Jeremy Faust, MD, editor-in-chief of MedPage Today, Dr. Shah delves into the details of this transformative proposal. The assurance labs concept addresses the current lack of standardized evaluation for AI models in medicine. Dr. Shah draws parallels with car safety standards, emphasizing the need for a systematic approach to test and validate AI models. The labs would play a crucial role in transparently reporting the performance of these models in a national registry. In discussing the future of AI in healthcare, Dr. Shah envisions a scenario where AI aids clinicians in real-time decision-making. He emphasizes the importance of local context in evaluating AI models, challenging the traditional approach of universal external validation. Dr. Shah encourages clinicians to actively engage in the process, whether through meetings, influencing purchasing decisions, or leveraging patient advisory councils. Addressing concerns about data privacy, Dr. Shah advocates for secure data sharing, emphasizing the duty to contribute individual data for the greater good. He highlights the need to update privacy laws to align with the goals of a learning health system. In closing, Dr. Shah discusses the innovative approach of using de-identified datasets for research, balancing the need for sharing knowledge while ensuring data security. https://lnkd.in/gTKxPExF #AI #Healthcare #Medicine #DataSecurity #IP #VC #Patents #DeepTech
