If you want to instill good learning habits in children as a parent or teacher, you should read Pratima Gurang's "Happy Classroom, Engaged Classroom". Each chapter is written in simple words and elaborated according to the topic with visual treats whenever necessary, thus keeping the readers hooked. "Be their cheerleader," I know Pratima writes this based on her own experience as a cheerleader for her son. I am passing on this treasure trove of knowledge to my friends & cousins who are into academics. One should also hear her thoughts on different techniques used in teaching: I am sharing a snippet of the "I Spy Technique" recommended by Pratima during one of our conversations about the education system, educators, students and learning. My term 1 teaching is officially done. I’ve been teaching for a zillion years, but this term challenged me, particularly around teaching huuuuuge classes. In my first lecture in this space a few weeks ago, I felt pretty overwhelmed. That’s one big stage. But what can I say? I like a platform, and I hope I managed to keep the classes engaging, stimulating and participatory. I used menti.com in each session to elicit responses, which worked brilliantly. I used lots of images to make the content come alive and shared anecdotes and examples to support the content.
