Elated to share my gratitude for the completion of one of my capstone projects. I am especially excited about the Water-Energy Nexus project that my team and I embarked on: “How to increase Houston Water Supply by 25% by 2050”. My teammates - Carina Tran & Ashlika Persaud and I developed a nexus framework that examined the interconnections between water, energy & food as they affect the water supply in Harris County and the Texas Water Development Board’s objective to meet the projected demand for water by 2050. Keeping our focus on Houston (Harris County’s hot spot), we considered three main scenarios - using strategic supplies identified by the TWDB, integrating renewable energy sources, and various desalination processes. These scenarios also served as interventions to bridge the projected water supply-demand gap. We further examined these scenarios and analyzed trade-offs between each intervention. This provided insights into alternative strategies recommended for the TWDB projected 2050 water supply plan. Big thanks to the Global Energy Future course team Marcello Di Martino, Bassel Daher, and Stratos Pistikopoulos for their tutelage, counsel, hands-on help, and project supervision. Also incredibly grateful to Stratos Pistikopoulos of the Texas A&M Energy Institute for his invaluable support and collaboration. Most importantly thank you to my wife Victoria for always being there for me and all her support through this process. If you’re curious about our recommendations and short/medium/long-term proposals on increasing Houston Water Supply by 25% by 2050, happy to chat in the DMs. #sustainability #SDG6 #SDG7 #SDG11 #renewableenergy #water #supply #demand
