Colour in the built environment. I’ve always thought that colour was a supplement to, not a generator of, successful urbanism. But, as I’ve seen more and more examples worldwide, I’ve come to the conclusion that, while colour isn’t necessarily the primary thing, it can play a critical role in accentuating the experience of a place. It’s a crucial piece for how we perceive and how we receive urban things. It can be bold or subtle, it can become dramatic with accent lighting or calming with daylighting.
