Job growth in Houston is slowing, with the city losing 13,100 jobs in the first seven months of the year, compared to the historical average addition of around 22,000 jobs annually. The primary losses have been in the trade, transportation, utilities, and government sectors. However, there are positive signs, such as major industrial leases, indicating potential for recovery. Additionally, the leisure, hospitality, and construction sectors are showing job gains, with increased hiring in food services and retail driven by post-pandemic consumer behavior and food delivery trends.

What are my top three questions to every job seeker and why? Whether you are transitioning from the military, leaving professional sports or graduating from an education program, the location you pick for your home is one of the most important decisions in career success. You must leverage the geographical advance in career choices to match your locations. As we job seekers explore different industries and professions, its essential to consider how the location of the connecting industry aligns with your skills and aspirations. If you know me, you might have heard my tugboat analogy. I want to take it a bit further with this map from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics around the Marine Engineering Industry. While Kansas’s Manhattan might not be the mecca of jobs, you see that Texas and Florida could be. The coastal communities are hubs of innovation and activity in these industries. As you consider your career paths, understand that some skills are applicable across many industries. Consider the additional industry specific knowledge that you would need to attain to be successful in that field. Is it of interest to you? Are you going to want to dive into it full force? All of these things could be considered when job seeking. Here are three questions I always ask job seekers in our conversations. 1) What do you want to talk about everyday? 2) Do you geographically align to the company/industry you want to be in? 3) Is your job/skill portable across multiple industries? #jobseeking | #veteranhiring | #hohfellows Paola | 🪖Steven | Kedrick | Brittney | Rafael | Kandi |

STOP SEARCHING “LOCAL”???? We all know middle market PE has thousands of portcos in less than desirable locations. One of the most common mistakes I see is (logically) focusing on the local candidate pool. Here are 3 Tips for finding great CEO and CFO candidates when you’ve got a tough location… 1. PAST LOCATIONS Check out where candidates have lived in the past. There is a decent chance they would be willing to move back and they know what they’re getting in to. 2. ALUMNI LOCATIONS Check out where candidates went to school. A lot of people have aspirations to move back or even retire to their university town. 3. HOBBIES / INTERESTS If you’re recruiting for a role in northern WI, target candidates that enjoy hunting and fishing. FINAL THOUGHT: All of these strategies require disciplined data tracking on the front end, and a lot of conversations, interviews, and hard work on the back end. There are great candidates out there. Don’t let anyone tell you location is a hinderence!

One of the key factors contributing to the robust job market in Texas is the state's diverse economy. The oil and gas industry has long been a dominant force in Texas, providing numerous job opportunities for engineers, technicians, and other professionals. Whether you're seeking a career in finance, healthcare, education, or hospitality, you're likely to find a suitable job in the Lone Star State where the unemployment rate has been consistently below the national average in recent years. Strong population growth has contributed to the increased demand for workers as the need for additional infrastructure, services, and businesses creates a greater number of job openings across various sectors. #houston #austin #texascity #sanantonio #dallas #fortworth #denton #irving #elpaso #lubbock #arlingtontx #grandprairie #wichitafalls #amarillo #collegestation #cypress #galveston #garland #harlingen #humbletx #mckinney #plano #texarkana #tyler #beaumont #channelview #conroe #corposchristi #grapevine #katy
