🚨 Oaken Wood in Aylesford is facing its greatest threat in decades. Kent County Council’s draft Mineral Sites Plan proposes expanding Hermitage Quarry into this ancient woodland, which could result in the loss of over 50 hectares of irreplaceable habitat and biodiversity. This would be the largest single development threat to ancient woodland in England, even surpassing losses from HS2 and the Lower Thames Crossing. We are working alongside local campaign groups and conservation organizations to stop this destruction. Together, we’ve raised concerns through official consultations, and we need public support to continue fighting for this precious woodland. 🙌 If you support the Save Our Woodlands appeal today, we can continue actively engaging with local campaign groups to protect Oaken Wood and other ancient woodlands at risk across the county. Read more about Oaken Wood and other woodlands at risk in our latest blog 👉 https://lnkd.in/evRujhng Donate to Save our Woodlands to ensure that woodlands stand tall for generations to come 👉 kwtg.uk/save-our-woodlands

🌳 Don't miss the forest for the trees—but what about the birds, bugs, and shrubs? All of these lifeforms are essential for forest longevity and regeneration. 🦅 This National Bird Day 2024, ARC features this pair of writhed hornbills whose role in seed dispersal drives forest development: two seemingly small parts of the whole ecosystem whose well-being is inextricably linked with the forest and the ecosystem as a whole. ❗Writhed hornbills are considered near threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss. Restoration projects initiated by ARC are designed to create habitat for threatened wildlife like the Writhed hornbill. 💚ARC considers the forest, and its trees, birds, and bugs—seeing the forest for its parts and as a whole in order to restore the environment. Introducing our 1 million pound fundraising appeal: Save Surrey's Nature ❌ 1 in 6 species are at risk of extinction in the UK ❌ 1/3 of Surrey’s species are in serious decline, or are already extinct ❌ Native species have declined by 19% on average since 1970 Save Surrey’s Nature will support our plans to work on our reserves and with partners across the county to restore and expand Surrey’s most diverse and threatened habitats – including nationally-significant heathland and chalk grassland and vital woodlands and wetlands – to help the wildlife that lives there. SWT Chief Executive, Sarah-Jane Chimbwandira says: “With the climate and biodiversity crisis biting harder than ever and putting people as well as wildlife at risk, now’s the time to think and act bigger. For all our sakes, nature’s decline must stop here. "With costs rising, wildlife and the people who work to protect it are more dependent than ever on the generosity of local people. Even if you can only give a small amount, please consider making this investment in our future.” Nature's sending an SOS - will you answer the call? If you can, please donate today ➡️ https://bit.ly/4aOacU7 #SaveSurreysNature #MillionPoundAppeal #SurreyWildlifeTrust

A $21 million dollar donation to The Nature Conservancy - most likely the single largest donation to buy land in Australian history - has supported the Queensland Government in the purchase of the Vergemont Station in western Queensland. Making an important contribution to Australia’s efforts to protect 30% of lands and 30% of oceans by 2030 (Pathways to 30x30 report), this acquisition will create a conservation corridor of 1.4 million hectares (slightly larger than Yosemite National Park in the United States). The area contains 34 regional ecosystems, including key habitat for the endangered Night Parrot and highly restricted Opalton Grasswren, and protects the headwaters of the Lake Eyre Basin, the source of one of the last remaining free-flowing arid river systems in the world. Why telling your story and impact matters
⭐️ "Anything that generates positive focus on a project is welcome." Emma Dent spoke to RNZ last week about the different ways conservation organisations can get recognition for the work that they do. "Comment from people with the high profile of Leonardo DiCaprio, who are champions of nature, are certainly a good way of drawing attention to an issue when it is something that the person cares deeply about, and we can see that it aligns with their values." https://lnkd.in/gBddTmd6 🎥 Last year, BBC's Our Frozen Planet aired a 12-minute short film about the Kotahitanga mō te Taiao Alliance. "This created great interest in the project as it helps to bring it to life for prospective donors. "We've had a couple of bigger and unexpected international donations coming in since the programme screened, and hundreds of thousands of views." Happy International Day of Action for #Rivers... Let’s face the facts… How much plastic do you think goes into the ocean every year in Australia alone? Answer: Annually, around 130,000 tonnes of plastic find their way into the marine environment in Australia. Source: Australian Government, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. What is the main source of Ocean plastic pollution? Answer: Rivers carry plastic waste from deep inland to the sea, making them the main contributors to ocean pollution. It is estimated that 1,000 rivers are accountable for nearly 80% of global annual riverine plastic emissions into the ocean, which range between 0.8 and 2.7 million tonnes per year, with small urban rivers amongst the most polluting. Source: The Ocean Cleanup. On average, how much plastic trash does each Australian dispose of per year? Answer: Each year, Australia produces a grand total of 2.6 million metric tons of plastic waste, equating to about 100 kilograms per person. Source: The National Waste Report 2022. Taking control of the pollution reaching our rivers and ocean begins with our choices and actions. Are you ready to take action? https://lnkd.in/g7RD8_mB #freshwater #watercrisis #watersystems #waterconservation #takeaction

How much does the average every day person know about Lions, their population dynamics & otherwise? I think programs like these are important I also think we’d make lots of progress in saving species if, for instance, every time we visited a zoo, Or see a lion roar in a movie, We took time to ponder more deeply What a Lion is, what is does, why it’s important So on and so forth Deeper understandings of wildlife and biology is the only way forward #thinkdeeper #wildlifeconservation #zoology #humanecology
Africa's landscape is undergoing significant change, with its population expected to grow exponentially over the next fifty years 📈. Additionally, #ClimateChange will challenge both people and animals to adapt to new realities. Without proactive planning, human-wildlife conflict will increase, and vital connections with wildlife, including iconic species like #Lions, will be at risk 🦁. AZA's SAFE African Lion program is tackling these challenges head-on. 🏞️ The program aims to create thriving, connected landscapes and foster communities that can coexist with African lions, boosting their numbers in the wild. The focus is on promoting human-lion coexistence, ensuring that both local communities and lion populations can thrive together. AZA-accredited institutions partner with local organizations across #Africa, aligning efforts with governmental, non-governmental, and scientific strategies for lion conservation. 🤝 Through this collaborative approach, the program continues to restore key landscapes while reducing violence against lions and addressing misconceptions about them. The SAFE African Lion program offers #AZA institutions opportunities to support lion conservation through funding, engagement, and coordinated campaigns. Join the mission! 🧡 You can donate to SAFE today and help secure a future where lions and humans thrive side by side: https://bit.ly/4dkLgVO. #WorldLionDay #AfricanLions #SAFE #Lion #AfricanWildlife #Wildlife #Conservation

Rest is a crucial part of life and if productivity must be maintained, rest must be included in our schedule. Some of our feathered friends are losing their place of rest to anthropogenic activities. Let’s Spotlight on the Majestic Secretarybird one of endangered species in Africa. In the sun-drenched savannas of Africa, a striking figure strides across the grasslands, its quirky quills and powerful physique making it a sight to behold. But despite its impressive appearance, the Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is facing a silent crisis, its numbers dwindling at an alarming rate. Found in the grasslands and open plains of sub-Saharan Africa, the Secretarybird is a critically endangered species, with estimates suggesting that only 6,700 individuals remain in the wild. Habitat destruction, human-wildlife conflict, and poisoning have all contributed to the decline of this magnificent bird, which plays a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem's balance. It's time to take action! We must work together to protect the Secretarybird and its habitat. Join the Fight to Save the Secretarybird! Join Green-for-Life Initiative to create a save environment for these birds and other endangered species. https://lnkd.in/dfUWBNSy #TreePlanting #Green-for-LifeInitiative #NGO #Treeplanting #BirdConservation #protectourplanet #eco-friendly #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalAwareness #WildlifeMatters #Sustainability #SustainableLiving #ConservationConnects #BirdLove #WildlifeConservation #EcosystemHeroes #BirdProtection #Sustainability #NatureLovers #BirdLovers #Sustainability #CommunityFirst #Greenify #Volunteer #Donate #SpreadTheWord
