I had a really intellectually stimulating time at the recently concluded Fintech Islands 2024 edition. The rich conversations and progressive mindsets was a much needed professional boost for yours truly. One of the recurring themes was the now almost obligatory reference to dinosaurs to describe those individuals refusing to move forward and embrace this increasingly accelerating digital age. There was a view that these dinosaurs often see digital transformation in terms of technology and their very understandable difficulty in coming to grips with both how these things work and what is the utility within their own business or operating models. I see this as an old age problem and I believe when we take a closer look the problem really is rooted in what I loosely term the illiteracy problem of the 21st Century. Up until the 20th Century the focus was on the three Rs, reading, wRiting and aRithmetic today the “new illiteracy” manifests in one’s inability to unlearn what was once accepted as true and “gospel” and to relearn new approaches, methods, concepts, frameworks (with increasing speed and frequency) in all areas of our lives and businesses…. My view is that this challenge is not confined only to the dinosaurs. #DigitalAgeLeadership #DigitalTransformation #21stcenturyskills

My Thoughts for Today How likely is an extinction level event? Indeed, the Earth has experienced several extinction events - the most well-known was the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) event around 66 million years ago, which led to the extinction of dinosaurs. Other significant extinction events include the Permian-Triassic extinction around 252 million years ago, and the Triassic-Jurassic extinction around 201 million years ago. However, predicting human extinction events with certainty is challenging. While threats like natural disasters, pandemics, or technological risks exist, estimating their likelihood is complex. So can we ever be prepared (enough) for such an event? These guys who build underground bunkers in silos, think so! The recent pandemic was a d mo for some. But given the isolation, changed living environment and what world you may re-emerge into, makes me wonder if it's worth it? Would you invest in such a bunker for survival? #ccpn #future #whatinspiresme #economy

If Earth's history were condensed into 24 hours, life would have appeared at 4 am, land plants at 9:52 pm, dinosaur extinction at 11:41 pm, and human history would have begun at 11:58:43 pm After reading the above summary, I wonder about the aggressive attitude of the humans towards the Earth, Environment and each other, given the miniscule time they have been around? https://lnkd.in/dd2Pz7f2
