CONSOR Engineers’ Post

Spanning 400 feet above the South Fork of the American River, the Mosquito Road Bridge in El Dorado County, California, is an ambitious bridge engineering and construction feat. This 1,200-foot-long balanced cantilevered segmental structure will support both everyday traffic to the local Swansboro community and emergency response to the wildfire-prone region. Our team is the prime consultant for the bridge design, which must balance safety, access, and environmental stewardship within this steep, sensitive canyon ecosystem. California Builder & Engineer recently featured this project’s challenging construction process, which Shimmick Construction Company, Inc. is delivering. Nice, reminds me of 25 years ago when worked on 2 Balanced Cantilever bridges in Smokies. Looks just like. Minimal impact to environment. Please keep pics of progress coming as I would like to see the Pier Tables in place and segments being advanced. Nothing like being up on top of that see saw as segments keep extending out in each direction and no really visible support except the cable stays to footing. If your in a horizontal and vertical curve I hope you have some good surveyors as shooting for a spot in space. I guess that what jacks and beams are for at closure pour :) Thanks for the pic. Ps, worst issue our surveyors had was what we called the banana effect. Sun would heat up top of deck and cold mountain air would keep rest of box cold so cantilever would bow it was hard to project a point in space at any given time considering curvature we were dealing with. Instruments probably more advanced these days. Good luck.

I’ve been on this road and it’s very steep and curvy and like a scary little narrow sway bridge. I bet the residence and few businesses there are really going to appreciate this new bridge. Thanks for all you do.!
