https://lnkd.in/dzihsUQ6 The Middle East and Africa Railroad Tie Market, valued at USD 20.11 million in 2022, is set for continuous growth, with an estimated CAGR of 2.9% over the forecast period. Railroad ties, also known as railway sleepers, play a critical role in maintaining the correct gauge and position of tracks. Positioned between the ballast bed and the rail, these rectangular blocks come in various types, including timber ties, concrete ties, and metal ties. Their primary function is to secure the track position, preventing track movement during train operations. Additionally, railroad ties distribute the steel rail's pressure on the ballast, enhancing stability and safety. #stellarmarketresearch #RailroadTieMarket #RailwayInfrastructure #MiddleEastAfrica #TransportationSector #MarketGrowth #RailwaySleepers #InfrastructureDevelopment

Although fall just arrived, winter is around the corner. ❄️ Most Canadian rivers are ice-affected for several months during winter. River ice and infrastructure in the Canadian context can have an affect on the safety and well-being of people, as well as economic consequences. Check out CJCE's special issue on river ice and infrastructure, which presents state-of-the-art research and engineering solutions dealing with the interactions between river ice and infrastructure. Topics include blockage of water intakes by ice, culvert icing and aufeis formation, assessment of ice-control structures, the planning and design of bridges in ice-affected rivers, design of ice platforms, and the estimation of ice forces. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) specifies that the ratio of tensile strength (TS) to yield strength (YS) for Thermo-Mechanically Treated (TMT) bars should be at least 1.15 for a few key reasons: 1. Ductility Requirement - A higher TS/YS ratio indicates better ductility. Ductility is crucial in TMT bars, as it allows them to undergo significant deformation before failure, which is important during seismic activity or under unexpected load conditions. A TS/YS ratio of 1.15 ensures that the bars can withstand stress beyond their yield point without sudden failure. 2. Energy Absorption Capacity - In structures, especially in areas prone to earthquakes or heavy dynamic loading, a higher TS/YS ratio helps absorb energy through plastic deformation. This enhances the structure’s ability to survive extreme conditions without catastrophic failure. 3. Safety and Structural Integrity - The ratio ensures a balance between strength and flexibility. If the tensile strength were too close to the yield strength (a lower TS/YS ratio), the bar might fail abruptly without warning, compromising structural safety. 4. Standardized Performance - Setting a minimum TS/YS ratio at 1.15 ensures uniform performance standards across materials used in critical infrastructure like roads and bridges, aligning with national and international quality norms. Thus, the 1.15 ratio ensures that TMT bars are not only strong but also possess adequate ductility, enhancing the overall resilience of structures.
