Construction Input Costs Stabilize as Contractors Eye Relief Great news for the construction industry! 🎉🏗️ According to the latest analysis by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), construction input prices have stabilized, sitting almost a full percentage point lower than last year. This is a welcome development for builders, as highlighted by Anirban Basu, ABC’s chief economist. Despite a marginal increase of 0.1% in August, overall construction costs have decreased by 0.7% over the past year. Nonresidential costs have also ticked down by 0.9%. This stabilization is expected to provide some relief to contractors, especially with the anticipated reduction in interest rates by the Federal Reserve. Key highlights: Natural gas prices dropped by 29.8% in August. 🔽 Unprocessed energy materials and crude petroleum prices declined by 7.5% and 4.2%, respectively. ⛽ Prices for materials like brick, structural clay tile, construction machinery, and switchgear remained stable. 🧱 This trend is a positive sign for contractors, who have faced significant cost increases since the onset of the global pandemic. With moderating material prices and easing labor constraints, the industry can look forward to better margins in the coming months.
