Complying development and granny flats. Did you know that there are times when you can't build a granny flat as complying development? One of these situations is where you have large trees in close proximity to the proposed granny flat. At times like this you would need to get council permission to remove the trees prior to getting approval for your granny flat, or you would need approval to build closer to the trees than is possible under complying development.
