The trust in public health institutions in Croatia has been declining for the third consecutive year, as indicated by the results of Nulti kvadrant, research ordered by Val grupa, organizer of the HealthComm Forum, at the end of 2023. Currently, only 29 percent of citizens trust public health institutions and only every fourth citizen is satisfied with public health services. This negative trend highlights the necessity of redefining the social contract in healthcare, which should be based on active listening and incorporating patients' interests into the decision-making system, focusing on and monitoring treatment outcomes, investing in new technology, making the latest scientific advancements available to patients, investing in the continuous education of all healthcare professionals, fostering continuous collaboration among all stakeholders, and ensuring timely and transparent communication. In 2015, at age 22, I began my career as a health tech entrepreneur by living in 3 nursing homes for a year, developing a product to enhance residents’ quality of life. For Dr. Rashaad Bhyat, one way to collectively advance connected care in Canada is to look for opportunities to scale up interoperable tools, such as e-referral and e-consult, that are already proving their effectiveness and helping to reduce administrative burden in the health system.
