Today marks International Day of Persons With Disabilities. Many of us spend lots of our time campaigning for accessibility, inclusion and for our achievements to be celebrated as equitable whilst we battle barriers and bias on a daily basis. Turn this around and what do you lose out on by not including the world’s largest minority group? 1.3 billion people or 16% of the world’s population. All of this and more. Now, if we could only make our schools 100% accessible too. Lets take the opportunity to raise awareness that although the American Disability Act passed in 1990, it is not (yet) a funded mandate. Children, Parents of Children, and employees of our public schools, who depend on accessibility, do not have equal access to their neighborhood schools (yet). In a time where emphasis is on "inclusivity," lets remember how this message is perceived by them. Until its important to you, Accessibility may not seem to be important. But wouldn't you want to know that if you needed accessibility for yourself or someone you love, that it would be there? This population is small, their focus is on their health, and they need to be heard. Will you be that voice for them? Will you fight for funding ADA mandates? #fundADA
