🚨 Resource Alert 🚨 Last night, I met Elsbeth Seymour, a technical instructional designer, and asked her about what it means to be "technical." In a few interviews, I was given the feedback that I needed to be more technical without clarifying what that meant since I have experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and a SQL BootCamp. Elsbeth recommended TryHackMe to upskill my technical skills, and I'm getting started today. My first impressions are great: there are clear pathways with gamification, social learning, and challenges. How did I meet Elsbeth? At the IDEA networking session. Sharon Tjaden-Burkes brings instructional designers and educators together each month to present ideas, trends, job-seeking, and networking advice. I presented in February and attended as a participant last night. When you hear the word "technical," what skills come to mind for instructional design? Why Tailored Training is the Key? Does your current training program leave your team feeling frustrated and underprepared? Fiona Erlita, our training program at B/NDL Studios, often encounters this issue. While the intention is good, sometimes generic training approaches create more problems than they solve. Here's why your team might be struggling with one-size-fits-all training: 👉 Diversity Untapped Your team thrives on the unique skills and backgrounds of its members. Generic training ignores these differences, failing to cater to individual learning styles and needs. Imagine a marketer sitting through coding lessons – not exactly engaging, right? 👉 Skill Gaps Persist Generic programs can't address specific skill gaps, leaving critical skills unaddressed. A graphic designer might not benefit from communication training, but presentation skills could be essential. 👉 Low Engagement, Limited Results Disengaged employees are a common sight in generic training sessions. This lack of personalization leads to low knowledge retention and hinders the overall effectiveness of the training. The key to effective skill development is two-fold: identifying individual needs and empowering employees to take ownership of their learning journeys. Ready to unlock your team's full potential? Share your experiences in the comments! 👀 For a free consultation: ask@bndlstudios.co #Training #EmployeeDevelopment #BNDLStudios #learnwithbndl #Learningjourney #learningprogram #LearningStudioa

Redesigning problems using a human-centred approach. Instructional Designer & eLearning Developer. | Founding Director of Belvista Studios
Explain the why. To motivate your learners, you need to help them understand how the eLearning will benefit their lives. If the course will not benefit their lives, it is highly unlikely that they will be motivated to engage with it. ⚡ Practical actions: - Gain an understanding of your learners motivations/goals. This can be achieved through user interviews. - Make a connection to the project goal and the learners motivations/goals. Ask yourself, ‘What benefits will learners receive if they complete this eLearning course?’ For example, if your learners are motivated by work-life balance, you could explain that learning the skills in your eLearning will enable them to work more productively and therefore be able to leave work on time each day. 💙💜 #advancedinstructionaldesigntraining #instructionaldesign #elearning #elearningtips #elearningcompany #corporatetraining #elearningtraining #belvistastudios #learningdesign #trainingdesign #freelanceinstructionaldesign #elearningdesign #freelanceinstructionaldesigner #learninganddevelopment #traininganddevelopment #elearningdevelopment #employeeexperience #learningexperiencedesign #freelanceeLearning #instructionaldesigner #elearningdeveloper #humancentreddesign #learning #bestelearningcompany #bestelearning #elearningblog

RPT VISA / Sr. Learning Design & Development Consultant (Communication I Adaptability I Woo I Positivity I Competition)
Food for Thought! One common mistake in course design is including too much history. While history can add credibility, it’s only valuable if it helps learners understand or apply the content. Focus on what learners need to know now. If the history doesn’t directly support the learning objectives, consider leaving it out. Next time you’re creating a course, ask yourself: Does this history truly add value for the learner? #LearningAndDevelopment #InstructionalDesign #EdTech #eLearning #LnD #LearningDesign

I have to admit, I get a lil "Greta" when I: 👉 See one line about instructional design theory and learning principles in job descriptions, the rest is eLearning dev stuff. 👉 See recommended academic course whose learning objectives start with "understand" and do not specify any degree of performance. 👉 Watch YouTube videos by well-known LnD figures diluting the craft of the training profession i.e. there's no one way to do needs analysis? 👉 Interview recent Master degree graduates and they cannot explain the application or use of a single learning theory. #learninganddevelopment #instructionaldesign #elearning #talentdevelopment

The last few days at work, I’ve been thinking A LOT about the learning design space, and if I have something to offer to the community beyond my day-to-day project work. As I start to work through some ideas I have about helping my peers max out their learning design skillset, I’ll also start posting some of my thoughts here to help the greater community. (Or at least drive some enlightening conversation.) If anyone has any questions about how to learn faster, retain more knowledge, and build skill mastery … let’s chat. (And if you have tips to share, I’m all ears!) #learningdesign
