New Gartner research shows that 30% of GenAI projects are expected to be abandoned after the proof-of-concept phase by the end of 2025, largely due to challenges such as poor data quality, escalating costs and unclear business value. The challenge for most organizations is the total cost of implementing GenAI projects and the value it will return from enterprise use cases, which are yet to be clearly defined. Most value will come from virtual assistants/chatbots, which reduce the load on the contact centers and automate customer experiences.

Perhaps if projects started with outcome And measures in mind. Only 47% of digital transformations have achieved their aim, after 20 years of doing it. Or 53% of digital projects after 20 years are still failing…why 30% abandoned projects in R&D phase means 70% success. Considering that the ROI might be 40% cost improvement. Perhaps a more rounded headline statement might be useful. Or have we forgot how to do ROI and benefit case analysis?
