A new study confirms what we already know – regular, preventive care leads to better health and reduced spending. What’s good for patients is also good for our national economy. The study noted that per-patient spending for those who saw a provider on a regular basis averaged $8,367, compared with $14,269, a much higher spend for those who did not. Additionally, the “regular visits” group logged 305 ER visits and 159 hospitalizations per thousand patients, while the “irregular” group had an astonishing 640 ER visits and 283 hospitalizations per thousand patients. https://lnkd.in/ggj5Y3aN

A #hospitalathome unit continues to be an important option for patients as hospitals face capacity challenges. At an HME News event this week, Atrium Health's Colleen Hole spoke of the health system's HaH unit, noting there are plans to scale from 40 patients on service to 60, saying, “That’s a small hospital" noting its importance as a resource. When hospitals and health systems struggle, patients and clinicians already dealing with the challenges of the past three years pay the price.
