Stanford HAI recently hosted a workshop with 55 experts from various fields to address the governance of AI in healthcare. Discussions focused on updating outdated regulatory frameworks to ensure safe, fair, and secure AI applications. Key areas of concern included 1) clinical decision support software, 2) enterprise AI tools, and 3) patient-facing applications. Participants emphasized the need for new policies, better information sharing, and enhanced public-private partnerships to manage AI's regulatory challenges and promote innovation while ensuring patient safety.

Hospitals need to address patient trust in generative AI to fully leverage its benefits. Deloitte's latest report shows a slight decline in AI usage for health reasons, attributed to increasing distrust. Building trust requires transparency, patient consent, and training AI on specific medical data. 80% of patients want to know how AI influences their care decisions. By clearly communicating AI's role in supporting, not replacing, healthcare providers, hospitals can improve patient trust and outcomes.
