#Norwegian state #airport operator Avinor has chosen #Swedish #construction group Ratos to #build a #greenfield airport inside the Arctic Circle. Bodø Airport will be built by its HENT AS subsidiary, which will work with Avinor on the scheme’s #design and #cost specification, after which the job will be carried out as a #turnkey contract. The $720m airport, which is located about a kilometre south of the one it is replacing, will have a 25,000-sq-m of #terminal and operational buildings. When it enters service in 2029, it will be able to handle up to 2.3 million passengers a year. Businesses and people in the region had lobbied the Norwegian government for years to fund a new airport to replace Mo i Rana in Nordland county because its runway was too small for jets to land. It said it would if local businesses raised $17m toward its cost. HENT beat two other teams to the $228m #contract. The company’s chief executive, Jan K. Jahren, said: “The entire bid #process was long and thorough. We used the full breadth of the company’s expertise, together with several external partners. “The #teamwork behind our responses to the award criteria, including price, understanding of the task and #project organisation, meant that we won out over the competition. This is important recognition for all of HENT and our partners.” In April, another Swedish builder, Peab, was picked to build the airport’s runway, taxiways and parking spaces (see further reading). As well as the airport, Avinor plans a new business district to cement Bodø’s role as an #aviation city and hub for connecting north and south #Norway.

We have worked hard as a team to put together the worker travel plan, with the assistance of Loukas Ioannou and to create and implement the shuttle service timetables to help people get to and from the Align JV worksites and reduce our impact on the local communities, as well as our carbon footprint. Amsterdam airport expansion delayed amid budget increase Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands has reported that the ongoing Pier A construction project will not be completed until early 2027. Contractor BAM will complete the construction of the pier in the coming years. The total cost of Pier A has increased to €1.4 million primarily due to repair work, delays, and a longer project duration. This amount is based on the current schedule and scope. Schiphol believes the chance of further postponement or budget overrun is minimal. Sybren Hahn, executive director of Schiphol Infrastructure, said, “We are pleased that we can now confidently look ahead to a new completion date. The complicated Pier A project clearly went far from smoothly under the previous contractor. “Delays, quality issues and a legal conflict – none of that helped progress. We will get the keys to the new Pier A in December 2026, after which we’ll conduct operational testing of the new systems and hundreds of colleagues and airport partners will learn how to work in the new environment. Then, in April 2027, we will open the doors to passengers and airlines. A lot still needs to be done before then. Together with BAM, we’re putting our shoulders to the wheel.” After preparation and repair works, BAM and its subcontractors are continuing with the construction of Pier A. Schiphol and BAM is aiming to complete Pier A by December 2026. The current schedule includes periods to account for any delays or unforeseen situations. Up to now, BAM, together with Heijmans, VolkerWessels Infra Schiphol, and other parties, have addressed numerous quality defects. For instance, the fire-resistant coating for the steel beams was found to be significantly damaged by weather influences, requiring BAM to replace the coating on approximately 18 kilometres of steel beams. #Poland has set out a €4.3 billion #road development plan for 2024. Poland will invest €4.3 billion in road #development, upgrade and maintenance works during 2024. The budget has been announced by Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). According to GDDKiA, the scale of this #funding will carry on for the next few years. So far, 16 large #highway contracts have been awarded in 2024 with the target being a further 200km of new #roads being built by the end of the year. One of the latest contracts awarded by GDDKiA has been for a 17km section of the €174.3 million S17 expressway. The #project will be carried out by a consortium that comprises Aldesa Construcciones Polska and Aldesa Construcciones S. A. The conclusion of the work will see improved #traffic flow between Lublin and Zamosc, via Piaski. In addition, a €127.4 million package of works for roads in West Pomerania has been awarded. Work will go ahead in due course for the Rusinov Ring Road and a stretch of the S10 Cybowo-Lowicz Walecki Expressway. The project will include #building 16 #bridges and is expected to reduce traffic delays in the area, with the work due for completion in 2028.

Skyward Bound: Transforming Abha International Airport into a Regional Aviation Hub The Abha International Airport project, led by Saudi Civil Aviation Holding Company (MATARAT Holding | مطارات القابضة) and the National Center for Privatization & PPP (NCP), attracted interest from 100 companies, including a 52 from within Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to upgrade the airport into a modern aviation hub, highlighting efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure in the Aseer Region with support from key governmental bodies. Key project highlights: ☑ Drives regional development and enhances travel experiences in the Aseer Region. ☑Includes beyond the terminal - reception centers, commercial complexes, and cargo handling. ☑Aligns with Vision 2030 to boost passenger traffic and enhance transportation infrastructure. ☑Completion planned by 2028 with the aim to accommodate 13 million passengers by 2054.
