The most common thing I keep hearing from clients, is we are waiting on jobs to drop and the question I keep asking myself is how can we maximize efficiency in Construction: Leveraging Temporary Workforce during Quiet Times? In the dynamic construction industry, fluctuations are inevitable. During quieter periods, it's essential for construction companies to adapt swiftly and maintain operational efficiency. One strategy gaining traction is the strategic utilization of temporary workforce. Here's how temporary staffing solutions can benefit construction firms during lulls in activity: 1.Flexibility: Temporary workers offer the flexibility to scale the workforce up or down based on project demands. This agility ensures that labor costs remain in line with project needs, preventing overstaffing during quiet times. 2. Cost-Effectiveness: By utilizing temporary workers, Builders can avoid the long-term financial commitments associated with hiring full-time employees. This cost-effective approach helps manage expenses during periods of reduced revenue. 3. Specialized Skills: Temporary workers often bring specialized skills and experience to the table. Whether it's carpentry, electrical work, or plumbing, tapping into a pool of temporary talent allows companies to access niche expertise as needed. 4.Increased Productivity: With the right training and onboarding processes in place, temporary workers can seamlessly integrate into project teams, boosting productivity during peak periods without sacrificing quality. 5. Retention Flexibility: During downturns, retaining full-time staff can be challenging and may lead to layoffs. Leveraging temporary workforce provides the flexibility to adjust staffing levels without the need for permanent workforce reduction. 6.Risk Mitigation: Temporary staffing solutions mitigate the risks associated with uncertain market conditions. By maintaining a lean core workforce supplemented by temporary staff, companies can navigate economic fluctuations more effectively. Embracing a flexible workforce model can be a strategic advantage for construction companies looking to thrive in a volatile industry. By harnessing the benefits of temporary staffing during quiet times, Builders can optimize resource allocation, minimize costs, and maintain competitiveness. #ConstructionIndustry #WorkforceManagement #TemporaryStaffing #OperationalEfficiency #Adaptability"

Hiring for Culture vs. Skill: A Tough Balance in Construction We recently hired someone who started off strong. He fit in well with our team and had solid skills, especially in an industry like construction, where competency and safety are non-negotiable. However, over time, his performance began to decline. We had a one-on-one to get him back on track, but after the long holiday weekend, he no-called, no-showed, and asked us to pick up our service truck. This has left me reflecting internally on a question I’ve struggled with: Do we hire for skill and train for culture, or hire for culture and train for skill? In construction, both matter. We need competent people who understand construction and safety, but they also need to thrive within our team culture. Is this what the job market has become? Has respectful resignation gone by the wayside? For those of you in construction, how do you approach hiring for culture vs. skill? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Talent, more than capital, is the greatest challenge confronting today’s construction industry. Multiple headwinds, including a shrinking and aging talent pool as well as society’s blue-color bias, have caused the overwhelming demand for skilled craft professionals to grossly outpace supply. Industry leaders have a critical role to play in championing craft careers and strengthening our country’s talent pipeline. As a leading craft employer in the U.S., we annually hire over 15,000 skilled craft professionals for projects across the nation — and we also are leaders in advocating for craft careers. Our Maintenance and Construction division recently published an eBook sharing our views on workforce development as well as tips and ideas for meeting the demand for skilled craft that leaders can employ in their own workplaces and communities. Download our eBook and join us in closing the skilled craft gap with strategies and solutions aimed at cultivating the next generation of skilled craft professionals who will help modernize America and build our future! https://hubs.ly/Q02Lr7G50 #SkilledCraft #CraftCareers #WorkforceDevelopment #ConstructionJobs #WeDoWhatWeSay
