Micro insights from the week in club: - The most breaking news around Costco is still its brand new CFO Gary Millerchip https://lnkd.in/gY_K5ace https://lnkd.in/gBZXzaHU, but it also reported January sales results showing sustained strength in its ecommerce business, even as nonfood comps lagged. Costco has been leveraging its online site to communicate the benefit of general merchandise purchases, particularly for big items like appliances, but these results beg the question: is it working, or is online grocery scoring touchdowns for club, too? https://lnkd.in/gMfV5Y2M - In terms of new openings, Costco is gaining yardage on its competitors. Representatives in Warwick, Rhode Island reached out to Costco to shop for a spot in the state. BJ's currently owns 100% of the club market in Rhode Island after Sam's Club exited - twice, once in 2012 and again in 2017.
