Good to know: The space consumption of cars, buses, bicycles and pedestrians. And as a reminder, only around 1.4 people are transported in a single car in Germany. Statistically, more than half of all cars have only one person on board. Thanks Bund Naturschutz for the visual breakdown 🙏🏻 🌱 #thinmobility #commuting #microcar #microcars #lightvehicles #urbanmobility #emobility #sustainability #Innovation #futuremobility

Crashes involving e-scooters and e-bikes are increasing, though so is their use. Injuries from these crashes are also increasing and are sometimes serious or fatal. E-scooter, and in some instances, e-bike crashes and injuries are different from those involving conventional bicycles, suggesting the need for targeted safety measures. Nonetheless, a relatively small percentage of micromobility collisions results in severe injuries or fatalities. THOR AVAS offers one of the solutions that will help reduce the number of accidents associated with the quietness and therefore visibility of electric scooters and bicycles. AVAS is a good solution to improve safety and to be heard by your customers. Sound matters. https://lnkd.in/dZiVKmZA
Micromobility injuries in Europe have dropped for the third year in a row Micro-Mobility for Europe - a coalition of shared micromobility providers including Lime, Bird, TIER Mobility, Dott and Voi Technology have aggregated data based on incident reports for more than 300 million e-scooter journeys and 58 million e-bike rides. The number of incidents requiring medical treatment and fatal injuries dropped by 19% from 2022 for e-scooters, and 16% for e-bikes. Read the piece on Zag Daily here: https://lnkd.in/eFtCiXXt

Our last preprint is out "E-bikes and travel behavior change: systematic review of experimental studies with meta-analyses" https://lnkd.in/e_sn67Gt - Meta-analysis shows a 5km daily increase versus controls after acquiring an e-bike, representing a 26% rise in e-bike mode share. - E-bikes can replace other transport modes, notably cars. Meta-analysis finds a 2.4km daily decrease in car travel representing a 10% reduction in car mode share versus controls post-intervention. - Baseline travel behaviors influence modal shift, with e-bikes typically substituting the most prevalent travel mode in the baseline period before acquiring an e-bike. - The experimental literature is scarce and only consists of studies conducted in Northern Europe. More experimental studies conducted in diverse settings are needed #ebike #research #transport #mitigation

📈 Cars in Europe are getting bigger. Today around 50% of the new vehicles sold in Europe are SUVs while only 22% are small cars. 🚗 It’s time to put cars on a diet! Larger cars put an extra strain on cities’ infrastructure. In the first of our webinars series 'A better mobility starts in cities', Guilloux Tristan, Director of the Mobility Agency at Ville de Paris highlighted the importance of rebalancing the allocation of public space between pedestrians, bikes, shared modes, and green vegetation. 🌿 With the next political cycle on the way, the ever-growing dimensions of cars must be curbed to ensure that vehicles being sold in the European market are compatible with cities’ aspirations for light, shared, and zero-emission mobility. A big thanks to all the experts on the panel, including Isabel Verwee, Jens Müller, Jean André Barbosa, Mark Nicklas, and Guilloux Tristan, for their contributions to the discussion. Earlier this week, we organized the first webinar in our series "Better Mobility Starts in Cities" at Eurocities, where we posed the question, "Is it time to put cars on a diet?" Among the recommendations formulated for the next EU mobility policy agenda, cities have emphasized the need for increased action from EU authorities regarding the ever-expanding size of cars. There are numerous policy avenues at the EU level that could be pursued to address this trend: consumer information initiatives, energy efficiency thresholds, EU industrial policy adjustments, or even size limits for new vehicles. This is just the beginning of the conversation but we truly hope that the upcoming mandate of EU institutions will present opportunities to support the development of a car market more aligned with cities' aspirations. #UrbanMobility #PublicSpace #RoadSafety #Climate #Cities

One of the causes of traffic jams is the disproportion between the space required by cars and the number of passengers transported. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝘀? I still vividly remember how about two years ago, we started the journey of our new scaling strategy to offer MOIA's years of experience from our ridepooling service to further cities via our new licensing strategy. It is great to see how MoUs coming in (in this case Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG)) confirm that we are on a good track with this strategy - proof points are the fuel for any strategizing 😉. Berlin aims to broaden its public transportation system beyond the usual expansion of subway routes and bus services. To attract more individuals towards sustainable mobility, the solution must present a viable substitute to private vehicle usage - this is where our visions align perfectly. And we are excited to join on that journey! https://lnkd.in/eFFFdMYt #futuremobility #autonomousdriving #publictransport #mobility
