Understand the CTR in a meaningful way: 1) The average clickthrough rate for Google's top spot is 28.5%. 2) After position 1, the percentage rapidly decreases: The average clickthrough rate is 15.7% in the second slot and 11% in the third. 3) Just 2.5% of searchers on average click on the result in the tenth position. 4)Because the CTR for position #1 varies between 13.7% and 46.9% based on the search intention and consequently the SERP structure. 5)Compared to pure organic SERPs, searches for which Sitelinks are displayed have a substantially higher CTR. (46.9% versus 34.2%). 6)The percentage of organic clicks is also decreased by Knowledge Panel features (16.7%) and Featured Snippets (23.3%). 7)Lower CTR numbers are typically found in SERPs with more diverse components and integrations. So for SEO: SERP structure is determined by the keyword's search intention, which also determines how many organic clicks you can aim for. The deciding factor is not the search volume by itself.
