Long-duration energy storage (LDES) is essential for a reliable and renewable grid, but current electricity markets don't adequately compensate for its unique capabilities. That's the message from LDES experts (and LDES Council Members) Marco Ferrara from Form Energy, Larry Zulch of Invinity Energy Systems, and Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES Council) CEO Julia Souder in a new article from Latitude Media. Current capacity markets are designed to incentivize resources that can provide power at specific times, but LDES is better suited for providing sustained generation during periods of renewable under-generation, they said. So the LDES Council and its members are working with regulators to advocate for new mechanisms to support LDES development. Getting LDES to the point of “liftoff” will require adequate compensation from the power sector. Read all about it in the article below. #LongDurationEnergyStorage #LDES #MarketReforms #RenewableEnergy #GridReliability https://lnkd.in/gWFaM2qs

New York puts US$5 million to long-duration energy storage projects 💵 🔋 US$5 million will be made available for long-duration energy storage projects (LDES) by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The money will support the development and demonstration of scalable LDES solutions to help the state meet its clean energy and energy storage deployment goals, including a 6GW by 2030 energy storage target. These steps will tackle challenges such as grid congestion, hosting capacity constraints, and lithium-ion siting limitations in New York. 🗽🇱🇷 The Battery Storage products are really taking off in the United States and with these projects being delivered, it is an excellent step towards easing grid congestion! #energystorage #renewableenergy #unitedstates

California's energy storage capacity has skyrocketed to over 6,600 MW, a monumental increase from less than 100 MW in 2015. This remarkable growth is a testament to California's commitment to clean energy and its goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2045. With battery storage playing a pivotal role in mitigating clean energy intermittency, the state's rapid expansion showcases its dedication to solving the intermittent power challenge. It's worth noting that 6,600 MW can power about 6.6 million Californian homes for four hours. As California continues on this clean energy journey with ambitious targets of 19,500 MW by 2035 and 52,000 MW by 2045, it remains the largest energy storage market globally. The state's emphasis on clean energy and energy storage has been the driving force behind this growth. American Lithium Energy (ALE) applauds California's efforts and is poised to contribute to this clean energy expansion with our advanced lithium-ion batteries, delivering safe and efficient energy storage solutions for a sustainable future. 🌞🔋 https://bit.ly/46VAlin #EnergyStorage #CleanEnergy #California #ALE

#CEBIP eNews Update! 🌟 Long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies are greatly needed for the the journey of achieving a clean energy future to a clean-energy future faces issues such as energy supply gaps and power outages. That's why we're excited about the advancements happening in LDES technology! 🚀 Wind and solar power are great, but they're not always able to generate energy. LDES fixes this issue by storing energy and releasing it when we need it most. 💡The Biden Administration recently announced a $325 million investment in nationwide energy-storage projects, with $15 million earmarked for pioneering companies. New York State's first iron-air battery system, capable of multi-day energy storage, is also underway. The New York State Research and Development Authority is also dishing out $8.15 million to support innovative storage technologies in New York!
