Why is recruiting the hardest sales job? Because candidates are people. My job is to introduce attorneys to law firms. An attorney. A person. A human being. Someone with a mind and feelings of their own. If I sell you a car, I can guarantee it won't decide at the last minute that it doesn't want to go home with you and wants to stay with its current owner. But I can't make that guarantee with an attorney. No matter how many conversations I've had with the attorney and how many promises the attorney makes that they want the job and want to work for your law firm, I can't guarantee that the attorney won't change their mind or accept a counteroffer. And I'm glad I don't have that power. It's hard enough to control my own mind let alone someone else's! Whatever stage you’re at in your legal career, a cultivated and well-honed personal brand is vital to stand out in ‘the sea of legal knowledge’ – especially to give you a competitive 'leg-up' when it comes to client acquisition, business development, and influencing stakeholders. (If you’re looking for a new role – even more so) Put simply, it can help to elevate your professional standing, gain trust and build a positive reputation – although it does take little time and effort to get right, and then maintain. Did you know “Fed Up” came from falconry*? If you’re a lawyer who is feeling distinctly that way do read on… Fed Up originally meant a bird who was no longer hungry and had no incentive to hunt. Which, in my view, fits very neatly with the realities of law firm progression. Yes, as an employed lawyer, you’ve got a good standard of living and income. I can’t argue with that! And yes, you’ve got the *prospect* of progression. But is it a reality? Does your effort actually match your reward? Can you truly influence what you do and how you do it? Could you *really* say “No” without adverse consequences? When you’ve reached the point of delivering what was agreed peformance wise can you stop? Or is it just a constant series of being asked for “more” for no benefit for you or your clients? And does you hitting those targets and more translate into an *actual* promotion or just a request to keep up the good work and wait for the nod/wink/cough/expiration of one of the other partners..? If you’re relating to any of those points and are Fed Up and silently despairing about what to do next, you’ve got options. Turning your following and clients into a business and life you control is one of them. With freedom, flexibility and autonomy. At Legal Studio Solicitors. So please don’t get stuck on a perch for the rest of your legal career. Do the work you love for clients who value you at the level you decide. And Enjoy Work again! #WeAreLegalStudio #EnjoyWork #WorkLifeBalance #LegalCareer #LawJobs *No CGi, this really is me with a Harris Hawk from our Centre Parcs holiday last week. At the point of taking the picture he’s “Under my thumb”, another falconry phrase! Link in the comments to a BBC article referencing all the various pieces of language that can be traced back to falconry.

If you're not looking after team members there are plenty of other firms that will. Retaining your best people takes work, but often it can be the little things that make a big difference. ⭐ Recognition of good work via company social media feeds ⭐ Proving professional development opportunities ⭐ Celebrating little daily wins There are many more to add to this list. What do you do to appreciate your team? _____________________________________________ I'm Mike I'm a legal recruiter who helps SME law firms find great people for their teams.
