How long should an Echocardiogram take? Echo scan times were a hot topic at this year's CSANZ imaging council AGM. This is a safety and quality issue that affects both the Echo Physiologist/sonographer and the patient. Back in December 2020 Professionals in Cardiac Sciences Australia (PiCSA) - published a discussion piece on the topic - I've attached it here to facilitate conversation. It is sobering that 4 years later the scan-time problem persists. Sometimes a focused study is appropriate, but I'm not sure it should qualify for the same reimbursement as a full study. I'd love to see more effective governance on this issue - perhaps it is time for a new statement that is endorsed by ASA, PiCSA and CSANZ.
