The answer is NO! A #policymaker spends most of their time reading, understanding and writing! They really do not have the time to find out if a particular piece of #research is will support their work. 🌲 Scientists and researchers! 🌲 The work you do is amazing, but it is not finished until it is communicated. Or put into action even! Make it easier to implement your #scientific work by creating popular versions of your #researchpaper or work more broadly. Some easy things to do are: - creating one-pager summaries - writing accessible short articles - make comics explaining why the public needs to care - record yourself talking about it; make it personable! - explain it to me like I am 10 The impact of your research starts with YOU.

From James Clear; "Writing is the superpower of humankind. It is our truest form of magic. Writing allows you to conjure up something of value where nothing previously existed. It costs little for you to write down the lessons of your life and yet those few minutes spent writing can be life-altering for the right reader. As I once saw it put: "there is someone out there with a wound in the exact shape of your words." Furthermore, writing is the foundation of nearly every technology and innovation because we have to record what we know before we can build upon it. And these innovations are passed down from generation to generation, allowing our children to inherit a richer intellectual fortune than what we were born into. The world is richer because we write and nobody is made poorer in the process."

🔍 The art of structuring research: The logical flow between paragraphs In research writing, the power of well-connected paragraphs cannot be overstated. When each paragraph naturally flows into the next, it not only clarifies complex ideas but also strengthens the overall impact of the research. Each paragraph should introduce a single idea or finding. Think of it as a building block, small, purposeful, and integral to the whole. Seamlessly guide readers by signaling shifts in topics, such as "in contrast," "similarly," or "moreover." This helps readers see connections between ideas at a glance. Assume they’re reading your work for the first time, it is important to summarize key points at the start of each new section, ensuring your research narrative remains accessible. Then, connect paragraphs by referencing the previous one briefly and hinting at what’s to come. This creates a logical thread that’s easy to follow. Therefore, perfecting the logical flow in writing might seem like a small detail, but it profoundly influences how well research is understood and appreciated. #ResearchWriting #AcademicWriting #LogicalFlow #ResearchTips

Up on the next learning, I am writing on another topic, Writing is not just about putting words together, It's more about reflecting on your thoughts, and no doubt you learn a lot in this process. Here are the 5 best things I consider while writing, + Choosing a quiet and calm place to write on. (my room) + Before writing, make a topic list on how my story will go. + Research each topic separately, to avoid merging ideas. + Give time to reflect on what you feel about the topic. + Make it engaging and more relatable. Because I am a science nerd I focus more on the last tip, because science is a little harder to go with. How's your day going on? #science #writing #astronomy

Aligning Your Introduction and Discussion 💡 Here’s something I’ve learned while editing research articles: The introduction and discussion sections should work together to tell a complete story. 1️⃣ The introduction sets the stage – The introduction asks, “Why does this question matter?” 2️⃣ The discussion connects the dots – The discussion answers, “What did we learn, and why is it important?” It’s like a journey. 🔍 Your turn: What’s your biggest challenge when writing or editing the introduction and discussion? #ScientificWriting #WritingSkills #StorytellingInScience

I've written a brief guide to getting started with expressive writing, a method for offloading and processing how you feel. I use this method myself as a weekly offload. Have you tried expressive or free writing to offload and clear your mind? Did you know that the founder of the expressive writing method, Professor James Pennebaker, has said that it is the second writing session, where we process what we have offloaded, that is more helpful than just having a brain dump. This 'processing' and reflection is where new insights and perspectives can arise as we process the initial thoughts and feelings.
