*Late post It has been almost a year since I had the honor of serving as a speaker at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Directorate General EBTKE, during the event titled "Training of Trainers (ToT) on Climate Change Guidelines for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors," held from July 5th to July 7th, 2023. it’s a timely reminder of the urgency to address climate issues, I'm also struck by the recent heat waves gripping not only Indonesia but also regions around the globe. These events serve as stark reminders of the urgent need for action to mitigate climate change and its impacts. Let’s not forget that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not just about environmental preservation; it’s about securing a sustainable and prosperous future for everyone. We all have a role to play as stewards of our planet. By adopting sustainable policies, investing in renewable energy and promoting eco-friendly urban planning, cities have the potential to lead the way in mitigating climate change. Indonesia, a key player, recognizes this tremendous need and plans to leverage the development of Nusantara — scheduled to become the country’s new capital in 2024 — by embracing a net zero emissions strategy.

In 2023, global temperatures were recorded to be approximately 1.48°C warmer than the pre-industrial era average temperatures of 1850-1900, according to the European Union climate agency. The year 2023 marked the hottest year in world history, and temperatures are projected to continue rising in the coming years. A concerted effort by the global community is needed to promote the use of clean energy, including Indonesia. Indonesia builds water reservoirs to handle climate change.   The government in Indonesia is making effort to build more dams and retention basins as concrete actions to address the threats of climate change is needed. To deal with the threats of climate change, the Indonesia Government are prioritizing dams to have a large amount of water reserves during the dry season. Therefore, the minister then placed emphasis on the importance of modifying the designs for dams to enable the water reservoirs to optimally manage water, both during the dry and rainy seasons.
