#CoopFortnight celebrates how co-operatives offer an altogether different way to do business. Meet Homebaked Community Land Trust in Liverpool, set up by a group of Anfield and Everton locals who came together in response to failed top-down regeneration. 🤝 They’re behind an ambitious multi-use community property development project – and their other great work includes putting on community events and supporting local businesses and start-ups that address local needs. 🏚️ They’ve also embarked upon another ambitious project, The Cosy Homes Club, which aims to empower local people to ‘retrofit’ their homes to make them more comfortable and cheaper to run. 💡 “It’s about energy efficiency for all,” said Zero Carbon Neighbourhoods Project Lead Rachael Branton. “We’re investigating how we can achieve an efficient roll out of whole-house retrofit in Anfield and Everton, in a way that doesn’t leave anyone behind.” 💻 To that end, Homebaked CLT has been conducting research and has held training, talks and workshops on subjects including carbon literacy and DIY draft excluding. 🙋 “We’re working towards building a group of people in the area who have the knowledge and enthusiasm to work together to create change in their housing. It needs to come from the people in the area – we are aiming to create the conditions that allow people to do that.” ✊ Want to see more grassroots community empowerment like this? Ever notice how some neighborhoods just have that "magic" that makes them feel like home? 🏡✨ Calgary has that in spades, especially for young families looking to grow roots and spread their wings. Here's a personal insight. A few years back, a client was torn between the big city and suburban life, their biggest concern being the community feel for their kids. Fast forward to today, they're the biggest advocates for family-friendly neighborhoods in Calgary. How? The answer lay in the community events that brought families together, creating bonds stronger than the Alberta winters! From summer BBQs in the park to winter festivals of lights, every event in Calgary seems designed to build connections and joy. 🎈 This isn’t just about fun and games. These community events are the threads that weave strong neighborhood fabrics. By helping families find their perfect spot in Calgary, we've observed: 1. Children’s development is enriched with community activities. 2. Parents find a support network. 3. The value of properties often increase as neighborhoods build a reputation for being "the place to live" for families. To my clients looking for a space to grow bigger or those wanting to downsize without losing community ties, remember, it's not just square footage that makes a home—it's the laughter, support, and shared experiences in your locality. Calgary isn't just where you buy a house; it's where you find a home and a community that embraces you. To those who wonder if community spirit still exists, I say come to Calgary's family-friendly neighborhoods - it's alive and thriving here! 🌈 Calling all Calgarians — what’s your favorite local event that brings our communities closer together? Share your stories! #CalgaryLiving #FamilyFriendly #CommunityBuilding #RealEstate #GrowWithCalgary

Strategic stakeholder relations, corporate communications and market strategies for new homes sectors
Great conversations at the Bisnow Single Family Rental Summit this morning. The potential for SFR is undoubted. Key issues for the sector are to create long term partnerships between institutional investors and house builders, and to effectively present the professionalised rental sector and the need for mode-market rental to all political parties. This affirms what The UKAA is delivering for the sector - bringing together investors and house builders and setting out the benefits of all BTR including single-family and the high standards of quality, customer experience and community development being delivered by the sector.

"The solution to the most intractable problems that we face in our communities starts from the grassroots, inside out." - Cormac Russell In community development, collaborative effort is what helps make the change. When we empower everyone in our community to become the change we desire to see, we are well on our way to achieving great things. The key to sustainable community development is unity. Not thinking along the lines of 'them' but thinking along the lines of 'us'. 📹Cormac Russell at TEDxExeter on sustainable community development.
