Good insights into what to expect at major climate, nature and economic gatherings this fall. And more importantly, how they all connect to one another.
Decision-makers from nearly every country on the planet will attend a series of high-profile international summits between now and the end of the year. Together, they offer a unique chance to address the biggest challenges facing people, nature and climate. With these successive and connected convenings, decision-makers have an unprecedented opportunity to finally put the world on track for a livable future. If we look at the outcomes of past international summits, we might anticipate incremental change at best. But we do not have the luxury of continuing on that path. Leaders need to not only connect these deeply intertwined issues, but also ensure this season’s summits build on one another to secure the transformative change the world needs. Day 1: One Young World Opening Ceremony - A Call to Action The One Young World Summit in Montreal kicked off with a powerful reminder from a First Nations leader about the interconnectedness of humanity and nature. We were urged to treat our planet with the respect it deserves, recognizing its vital role in our survival. Notable speeches followed, each offering unique perspectives on our world's challenges and potential. Margaret Atwood encouraged optimism, reminding us that despite past hardships, we have the tools to create a brighter future. David Suzuki warned against humanity's tendency to view itself as separate from nature, advocating for a shift in perspective that acknowledges our interdependence. Bob Geldof delivered a stark critique of conflict, highlighting the futility of past wars and posing the poignant question, "What happened to love?" As the summit unfolds, I am inspired and motivated by the incredible delegates and their commitment to making a positive impact. I am deeply grateful to Siemens for providing me with this opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world. #OneYoungWorld #Montreal #Leadership #OYW #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Siemens

There were great discussions at the flagship session of the #NYCClimateWeek this morning: "It's Time for a new era of climate leadership and ambition - A stocktake on corporate leadership - turning climate transparency and accountability into a business opportunity." This panel was filled with outstanding #women leaders, moderated by María Mendiluce from We Mean Business Coalition, with Helen Clarkson from the Climate Group, Sherry Madera from CDP, Ulrike Decoene from AXA or Preeti Srivastav from Asahi Group Holdings. They call for bold action and a new era of climate leadership to close the gap between current efforts and the ambitious goals needed to address climate change. Key Takeaways: - The world is facing a critical juncture with rising emissions alongside record investment in clean energy. - The climate agenda in the coming year(s) will be pivotal for delivering on pledges and commitments. - The panelists advocate for transforming declarations into real-world action. - The need to push the boundaries of what's possible and lead from the front is emphasized. - Achieving climate goals requires closing the gap between existing leadership and the leadership required. - The message encourages thinking big, using data properly, increasing access to capital, innovating, acting swiftly, and collaborating to achieve climate objectives. #Sustainability #Data #SustainableInvestment #Leadership #climateaction #science #collaboration #climateambition #innovation

TIME 100 Most Influential Climate Leaders | Environmental Executive focused on Climate x Health | Author | Mom
Day 2-Scaling Solutions and Closing Gaps: Collaboration for Climate Action Day 2 of #ClimateWeekNYC left me feeling grateful and privileged to be at the table with leaders who are making a real difference and fueling my optimism for the future. 🌍 Innovation isn’t just about solving the challenges – it’s about scaling the solutions that work. 🔄 The path is far from linear, but continual evaluation of the highest-impact levers keeps us moving forward. 💡 The hard work? It’s in the details, the small steps that drive the big shifts. A highlight was the Kaiser Permanente and World Economic Forum Economic Forum (WEF) event powered by We Don't Have Time focused on closing the climate action gap. This conversation reinforced the urgency and importance of collaboration to accelerate change by putting health at the center of climate action with many amazing speakers including Brenda Mallory from The White House Council on Environmental Quality with inspiring remarks! I also had a total fan girl moment today seeing Dr. Jane Goodall at the TIME Climate Leadership Summit – a true inspiration for both me and my children. Her lifelong dedication to conservation and her unwavering hope for a better world remind me why we do this work. The power of being here is many fold: learning what’s at the edge of action, meeting with new (and old) leaders and being inspired. Excited to see what day 3 brings! #ClimateAction #ClimateisHealth #Gratitude #LeadersInAction #FeelingPrivileged #JaneGoodallInspiration #Collaboration

The past 12 months have seen some headwinds for climate and sustainability but I continue to focus on where I can move the needle to advance the climate agenda. Last week, I put together a BCG event for Seattle-based climate leaders. We covered four critical questions that detail why Seattle is a key geography for advancing climate and sustainability topics. Big thank you to BCG and Steve Mitchelmore for making this event happen and the ~20 leaders who made time for this important event. If you're a corporate leader, investor, policy expert, or start-up founder based in Seattle and focused on C&S please feel free to connect. Would love to continue building a robust climate & sustainability community in Seattle and grow our burgeoning community. In case you're curious here are the four questions we covered over the course of the evening: (1) What are the most promising climate technologies emerging from Seattle today? (2) Who/what are the key enablers to unlock the identified technologies? (3) How can these innovations be scaled and applied globally? (4) Why is Seattle positioned to lead in these emerging categories/technologies? #climate #climatetech
