Curator’s Tour RENAISSANCE With curator Leonie Radine 📅 27.06.2024, 19:00 ➡️ Free entry ➡️ Booking required - bit.ly/3yZZr3n Guided tour in the exhibition RENAISSANCE with curator Leonie Radine. The exhibition features works by 15 young artists from northern Italy. Despite the diversity of their practices – including sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, video, photography, and performance – all artists share a regenerative approach towards remnants from the past. How does a young generation of artists process their weighty cultural heritage, shaped by aesthetic and social “standards”, values, role models, icons, or expectations of the artist figure? How do they build upon ruins of the past which still cast long shadows?

Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog sculptures have transformed a simple balloon animal into a global icon of contemporary art. Imagine a playful balloon dog, but scaled to massive proportions, crafted in glossy stainless steel, and polished to a mirror finish that reflects the world around it. Each piece—available in vibrant blue, magenta, yellow, orange, and red—stands over 10 feet tall and weighs more than a ton, creating a powerful, industrial version of a delicate, fleeting object. Koons intended these sculptures to be more than eye-catching—they’re a blend of nostalgia, whimsy, and art. His use of stainless steel captures childlike joy but with a sophisticated edge, taking “kitsch” and elevating it to something lasting. Each Balloon Dog captures that contradiction: a durable version of something usually so fragile. And Koons doesn’t stop at aesthetics; he believes his Balloon Dogs represent optimism, innocence, and even our own self-image, symbolizing how we present ourselves to others. In 2013, Balloon Dog (Orange) set an auction record when it sold for a jaw-dropping $58.4 million, underscoring its value not only as art but as a cultural phenomenon. Despite critiques of its commercial appeal, the Balloon Dog has become a symbol of the boundary-blurring nature of contemporary art, merging fine art with pop culture in a way that challenges our ideas of value and meaning. If you want to see one of these massive dogs in person, check out the Balloon Dog (Blue) at The Broad in Los Angeles or the Balloon Dog (Yellow) at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. These colorful sculptures are part of Koons’ Celebration series, traveling the world and inviting us all to share in their vibrant, reflective presence. #JeffKoons #BalloonDog #ContemporaryArt #KitschToHighArt #ArtAndNostalgia #PopArt #ModernArt #ArtCollector #ArtInstallation #ArtExhibition

Frieze Focus 2024: Interconnectivity and Rebellion Against Division. Frieze London’s annual Focus section is held in high esteem as the leading platform for emerging galleries and artists to showcase their innovation and talent. This year’s collaboration with Stone Island showcased thirty-four presentations, a mixture of galleries and solo artists from across five continents. From digital installations and balloon animals to the more traditional mediums of painting and sculpture, the thread that tied a number of the Focus artworks together seemed to be a rebellion against the problematic division that society faces today. A subversion of boundaries and yearning for connection seemed to be the tone of this year’s Focus section at Frieze London 2024. Fostering the connection of galleries and artists from across several continents was Joumana Assily (Founder, Marfa), Piotr Drewko (Founder, Wschód), and Cédric Fauq (Chief curator, CAPC musée d’art contemporain, Bordeaux). The advisors curated thirty-four gallery and solo artist presentations that display the innovative talent of the emerging art scene. Explorations of boundaries, whether a rewilding abandonment or stark materialisation of them, were exhibited throughout the section. Here are some of New Wave’s top picks: https://lnkd.in/eUYmuyFw

Merging two iconic artworks, The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh and the Titanic leaving port, would be quite the sight. While The Starry Night is a swirling post-impressionist landscape depicting a vibrant night sky over a quaint village, the #Titanic leaving port is a #historical #photograph capturing a momentous event. Here's how you could #imagine this interesting combination: Imagine the swirling stars and moon of The #StarryNight transposed onto the night sky above the port where the Titanic is docked. The #ship's smokestacks could be puffing out smoke that blends with the swirling brushstrokes of the sky. The dark hull of the ship would contrast with the bright lights of the city in the background, creating a scene of both #beauty and #mystery. It would be an interesting #fusion of realism and impressionism, capturing the grandeur of the Titanic's departure against the dreamlike backdrop of #VanGogh's #masterpiece. Since The Starry Night is a nighttime scene, it would be more fitting to depict the Titanic at night, leaving the port illuminated by the city lights. This would create a more cohesive and visually striking image. #aiart #digitalart #design #creativity
