#Clean_Hands_and_Save_Lives 🧼🤲🏻👏🧼🚰 Hand hygiene is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to prevent the spread of diseases and save lives, especially in WASH and health settings. Proper handwashing with soap removes harmful bacteria and viruses, reducing the risk of diarrheal diseases, respiratory infections, and other illnesses by up to 50%. These diseases are leading causes of death, particularly in vulnerable communities with limited access to clean water and sanitation. According to the Sphere Standards, at #least 500 grams of soap per person per month should be provided to ensure adequate handwashing in emergency settings. Moreover, the standards emphasize that handwashing facilities should be available at all critical points, including near latrines, food preparation areas, and healthcare facilities, to ensure effective hygiene practices in humanitarian settings, where WASH services are often scarce, promoting regular handwashing can drastically improve public health outcomes. By ensuring that everyone, especially children, washes their hands before eating and after using the toilet, we can break the chain of infection, reduce healthcare costs, and protect entire communities from outbreaks. Clean hands are not just a matter of personal hygiene, they are a frontline defense in the fight against disease and a simple yet vital step in saving lives. Muttaqi

The hospital is a busy place, full of myriad devices and complex situations. Preventing hospital-associated infections feels like it requires an encyclopedic knowledge of every new and complicated health care intervention. Potential sources of transmission in the hospital include a remarkable array of specialized risks, but there are mundane, everyday risks like health care laundry too. #healthcare #laundry #linen #infectionprevention https://lnkd.in/gp_84Y_S

My hands, My power - If only we can stay reminded every day about the importance of the simple act of washing hands and proper hand hygiene, would we not help reduce the spread of diseases and infections in our society? As funny as this may sound, the truth is, the import of hand hygiene in preventing and reducing the spread of infectious diseases is actually really under estimated. During the lockdown due to COVID-19 , it appeared some of us started to pick interest on the subject of hygiene generally. But, unfortunately it was short-lived as it seems that some sinks, washing areas or hand sanitizer spots that were hurriedly erupted in institutions, schools and companies have been abandoned without use. Some have gotten so used to having a bad hand hygiene that it does not appear wrong for a mother to continue stirring the cooking pot after just changing her baby's diaper as long as she wipes her hand on her wrapper. Admittedly, in fairness to some others, they do not fall sick regularly despite their bad hand hygiene. But an African proverb will say, "99 days for the thief, one day for the owner". Also, on the 26th of August 2024, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attributed 1.4million deaths in the world annually to the spread of diseases through unsafe water, bad hand hygiene and poor sanitation. My visit to Kingdom Heritage Model Schools at Berger today was infact the encouragement I needed that there are schools who still take hand hygiene seriously. They had Handwashing areas around the compound and on their corridors. The kids had gotten so used to washing their hands after assembly period, Play time, after bathroom/toilet calls, before and after eating. I went for an awareness campaign as sponsored by Karisam Medicals, but I felt the kids really taught me a lesson today. This will be a major highlight of my stay at Karisam Medicals. I thought to share my experience to inspire you too. Let's normalize regular washing of our hands with soap, and having a handy sanitiser when on the go. #Globalhandwashingday #Globalhandwashingday2024 #Oct15 #Onehealthforall World Health Organization
