Why is allied health becoming more important than ever? 🌟 When I started working as a CNA and years later as a medical assistant, especially during the peak of the pandemic, I saw how amazing vocational training can be. It's not just about learning a job; it's about getting ready for big changes in how we do healthcare. But here's where it gets tricky: with facilities across the country facing workforce shortages, how can we help more people get training quickly? Enter community colleges - quite possibly the secret superheroes of learning. They're fantastic at getting people ready for healthcare jobs. In fact, 68% of allied health courses come from community colleges. And in case you missed it, they're a lot more affordable and accessible than traditional universities. Check out these other numbers: 📊 Mental/Social Health courses: 76% from community colleges 📊 Lab Science courses: 69% 📊 Nursing courses: 58% The numbers don’t lie. They show just how much community colleges do for health education. But what does this mean for hospitals and places looking to hire? Hospitals and clinics are always in search of skilled workers. By building strong partnerships with community colleges, they can ensure they're tapping into top talent. Using data and smart planning, these health institutions can decide on the right training programs and prepare for the healthcare challenges of the future. 🤝 So, if you're in training, healthcare, or policy-making, remember how important vocational training is. Every person who graduates from a community college can make our healthcare system even better. What do you think? #alliedhealth #vocationaltraining #communitycolleges

I have filled the role of an education director, clinical instructor, clinical nurse specialist, preceptor, and adjunct professor multiple times. The diagram below illustrates the progression of proficiency and knowledge acquisition. Ivy league graduate or not, wisdom is acquired over time. Most graduates are at an unconscious incompetence level which translates to “not being aware of what they do not know.” This proficiency framework is used by many professional development departments in healthcare institutions. There is no way to rush this process. Competency, proficiency and skill mastery are acquired through life and work experiences and include complex problem solving abilities. Board exams only substantiate entry level knowledge into a profession. #unconsciousincompetence

I love teaching and bringing up new, vibrant healthcare providers. But it is one of the most responsible jobs I ever took on. As it goes way beyond "teaching." My students are -following their syllabus, -passing exams, -attending their clinical rotations but in my mind, my goal for them is way bigger than that! I must prepare them for the unknown that comes with every new case they will face, and prepping them for that chapter is a "responsibility" like no other! Because as healthcare professionals, we really never graduate; -with every new case, -with every new patient, there is -a new syllabus, -a new clinical and -a new exam.
