This is a good show from Dr Akinwumi Adesina. Under his able stewardship, the AfDB has grown to greater heights amongst Multilateral agencies in the World. The cardinal errors of reporting on Africa are being repeated by Steven Shakur here : First, Africa is not a country- she is a continent. We have different countries with different growth rates. There are also regional differentials. The ready use of real data by Dr Adesina might have helped to dispel the "Hopeless Continent " narratives of Western media. We have the lowest failure rate on infrastructure financing in the World! The harping on our population growth should be pushed back. Conversely, the more we grow on numbers ought to be a good impact on economic activities. Time to get away from the Western ethos being imposed on us. African countries can and will do better when we add value to our mineral resources.
So, Africa has only One way to go: Up. Think-tanks and Groups need to support Entrepreneurs and galvanized State players to build and create fast. First for productivity (more of local consumption) and then for strategic collaboration (we are slightly late to the 4th Industrial/Economic Revolution, but we can take charge and jumpstart the 5th). Great engaging feedback from Mr. Adeshina.
#Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs)
As SACCOs continue to evolve in Uganda's financial landscape, their commitment to enhancing member services and adopting strategic growth initiatives is paramount.
>By prioritizing education, embracing technology, ensuring transparency, and fostering partnerships, SACCOs can not only meet current member needs but also position themselves as key drivers of inclusive economic growth now and in the future. Through these efforts, SACCOs can empower individuals and communities, promote financial resilience, and contribute to sustainable development across Uganda.

Time has come to re-assess many of the things we have been hearing from the Western media. For instance, contrary to popular belief, Africa is actually grossly under- populated as we have the same population as China alone or India alone (1.4B people), on land that is 10 times bigger than India's 3.3 million square km of land, and about 4 times bigger China's 9.6 million square km of land. Africa has 1.4B people on exactly 30.4 million square km of land. This reveals a number of truths:
1. Africa is not over populated, indeed we are sparsely populated with some countries like Namibia, having total population of only 3 million people and a population density of almost 3 people per square km.
2. If a large population size was bad for the economy, China and India would not be thriving economies, yet they are.
3. It therefore makes no sense to concentrate Africa's development strategy on population control. Rather, we should be focusing on aspects that make our youth bulge a real asset, such as access to good education within the continent, food security without GMO, better healthcare facilities that recognise and incorporate the use of herbal remedies, infrastructure development and reduced foreign interference in governance.
The Hard talk host in the video below, is clearly not neutral and appears quite prejudiced against Africa. While we respect his right to his opinions, Africans should avoid taking the perspective he shares as our reality. For instance, the US debt is much, much higher than Africa's debt, yet their economy remains relatively strong, so why focus on Africa's debt, especially when the same people are exploiting Africa's natural resources.
While acknowledging the need for improved quality of leadership in African countries, we must continue to value who we are and what we have, as we work towards our desired status of a united and more economically stable and buoyant economy that ensures the well-being of every citizen.
Kenyan #saccos are playing a significant role in expanding #financialinclusion by leveraging #digitalcredit products. It's indeed a significant development to see Kenyan #SACCOs offering #digitalcredit products with #creditlimits as high as KES 1 million. This move demonstrates the growing maturity and confidence of Kenya saccos in the #digitallending space.
This is NOT a political rant.
Let's cut to the chase: a recent report from Numbeo has painted a grim picture of South Africa. I’m not here to bash the ANC; honestly, we are way beyond that now.
Believe it or not, five of the top 10 unsafest cities in the world are in South Africa. Yep, you heard that right! Out of the top three most dangerous cities globally (not just on our continent), two happen to be in our backyard. 🤯
Now, for the not-so-good news: Pietermaritzburg has topped the unfortunate list as the most dangerous city worldwide. For context, Baghdad ranks 76th, Manila is at 43rd, and even a place like Dnipro in Ukraine is sitting pretty at 90th.
It's heartbreaking to watch one of the most stunning countries being dragged through the mud. These alarming stats push away foreign investment and tourism—leading us further into a cycle of poverty, crime, and corruption. It’s a vicious cycle, folks!
When will we, as South Africans, realise the incredible potential our country holds and step up to show the world that we’re not just about crime and chaos? It’s high time we shift the narrative!
But hey, here’s a silver lining to hang onto: our rugby team is ranked number one in the world—now that's something to celebrate! 🏆 At least we’ve got that going for us!
