Start your smart infrastructure journey with us at the JCT Traffic Signals Symposium 2024. We will be on stand S4 at the event, which takes place September 11th and 12th at the Nottingham City Campus at Nottingham Trent University. If you are a traffic signals engineer or highways manager looking for ways of making your traffic signals more efficient and effective, we have a number of different solutions available to discuss. This year, we have produced guidance for local authorities on how to improve efficiency of traffic signals based on our many years of experience of helping councils do just that! We have always believed the efficiency of traffic signals is a key part of effective and efficient cities and towns. We have spent more than a decade researching this and coming up with solutions to help. Using traffic lights, CCTV sites and 5G systems, for example, allows rapid clusters of vital information to enable you to manage traffic flow and other challenges more effectively. Our Mesh 5G provides high bandwidth communications to on-street devices using the 5Ghz spectrum with advanced TDMA protocols. This technology can cover all the needs of a smart city in a building block approach where every component fits together and works with a unified cloud. This system was developed in 2003 and has since been deployed in over 42 towns and cities across the United Kingdom. ✨ Alamouti’s Space-Time Block Code: A Foundation and a Journey ✨ In 1998, Alamouti’s Space-Time Block Code (STBC) brought a breakthrough in wireless communication, sparking countless innovations. The paper, Equalization Concepts for Alamouti's Space-Time Block Code, co-authored with W.H. Gerstacker, F. Obernosterer, R. Schober, A.T. Lehmann, and A. Lampe, was an outcome from my Diploma Thesis at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2001. 📝 This work was a deep dive into adapting Alamouti’s STBC for frequency-selective fading channels and finding ways to handle the complex challenge of inter-symbol interference (ISI). 🌐 Fast-forward to today: Alamouti’s STBC remains at the core of modern mobile communication systems, including 4G LTE and 5G NR. Its simplicity and strength in handling diverse transmission environments make it a technology that continues to deliver – powering connections globally. 📶 💡 Looking back, I realize if I had known more about patents back then, we should have tried to secure one to protect these advancements for adapting the STBC to frequency-selective fading and receiver structures to handle ISI. It’s a reminder to always believe in your ideas and never underestimate the impact of your work. Every contribution matters. Many ideas have the power to shape the future. 🚀 #Innovation #WirelessTechnology #STBC #Patents #MobileCommunications #4G #5G #EngineeringJourney #AlamoutiCode #NeverStopInnovating
